Need to learn a little patience. The experts and knowledgeable coin enthusiast are not here 24/7 for you.Looks like a form of Die Deterioration but that is just my guess.

With all due respect jasper, 176 people looked at this post before even offering an idea but yet there are a few dozen replies to an ebay item yesterday, I am trying to respond to other posts after learning from experts here, so I am no leach. I want to learn and help but Its frustrating when you see 176 people ignore your simple request for assistance.

Maybe they didn't know what it was either? I've seen this on a lot of the coins from the 80's to cover die clashes. Sometimes it is a split plating issue. Sometimes you see die wear showing toward the rim. But what ever the cause it is never something good or deserve a premium. But it is most often seen on the Zincoln's more than any other series.

Thanks coop! I really enjoy US coins in general. I am trying to get a better understanding and I try my best not to ask the same question twice. What I learn I will share with others in the forum, so thanks for the help.

Nope, sorry, but the circular indentation around the rim is post-mint damage, typically caused by having been encased as a "lucky penny" and then later removed. Not entirely unlike the coin in this thread.

Read the forums and coppercoins.com forum threads. A lot of answered questions there as well. I know, I read probably every thread there. Copy/paste what you find interesting to a word page. Even images compy paste with the words. That would be a great start.

Common of 80's Zincolns and an everyday find for roll searchers.
Worth the price shown on the reverse ... 1 cent.
Please have some patience chzman ... recognize that in your enthusiasm to post everything you are finding ... well ... it's tough to expect the CCF experts are going to drop all they are doing on a weekend to reply to every post you make.

I can understand that, however I did not post everything, I have been sifting through over a few hundred dollars worth of loose change in the last few weeks and only posted a few dozen coins of interest. You guys helped me identify some good coins. A nice Die Clash on a Zincoln, 1939 D nickle (key date), 1942 P nickle, A few common but interesting grease struck throughs and a few Die cracks, Chipped coins. I have learned a great deal, so thanks again!
