Apologies if another thread like this exists. Any volume hunters out there? Right now I'm doing 58-68 boxes per week. Also, I don't know where to else to post this as I can't PM anyone, but to murrellington: Can you send me a PM or email? I'd like to talk to you if that's cool.

That's a lot of boxes, you can't be having any fun. I go through one box per week of cents now and I used to do two per week. Once I did four boxes in two days and it is just to much. I look for errors and varieties so it does take a little longer then if I was only looking for copper or wheats. John1

I average an hour per box, I have 1 pre 1949 bucket, another 1950-1959, another 1960-1969 and one for wheats. I put the rest into circulation. I'm still debating on keeping the pre 1996 for copper. The set up I have is really really easy to do. Il post a video on youtube in a day or two. I just line up the buckets with the edge of the table, using silk cloth and slide them into the bucket they belong :) I bet myself I can Hand sort at least 10 boxes a day. and I'm pretty sharp at finding errors :) im still new.. like 1 week doing this.. I know il learn A LOT more! What is volume hunting? ... I told ya.. I'm new

58-68 boxes per week is huge. A little more information please. 1. What denomination are you sorting? 2. Are you hand sorting or using a sorter like a Ryedale that sorts Copper and nickel? 3. Are you sorting for metal content (Copper, Silver & Nickel), Dates or Errors/Varieties? 4. Being that you live in the United States...I would think that you are sorting US coinage? 5. As John trout1105 had stated...have your eyes started to bleed yet? I used to sort a box of cents a day. I can usually do 2 boxes if I push it. That is looking for the known errors/varieties. Of course I'm in Canada and we do not have access to the available vast databases for errors and varieties that are available for US cents. If I'm sorting nickels...I can usually run through 4-5 boxes a day...pulling all 1981 and older. I keep anything 1595 and older. I will keep coins from 1960 - 1998 if they have great eye appeal. For Quarters and dimes...I could most likely do 6+ boxes a day. There is not as much to look for when it comes to error/varieties. Pulling any silver if I'm blessed with any. For Canadian dime and quarters...you can not really edge search as it can be tough to tell the difference at times if a coin is silver. They all tend to blend together. Unfortunately...here in Canada...we do not have access to Halves like you do in the states. Our banks can not order Halves or pre Loon dollars. We can only get what others deposit...which seems to be far and few between...at least for me.

For that kind of volume I would imagine you're ordering your boxes from a bank. Are you paying a fee ? My guess is you're doing pennies with a Ryedale sorter and selling on ebay.

On a good week I can do 4 boxes of cents. I used to to 10 or more boxes of nickels per week when I was doing my nickel survey, and I got burned out doing that. My average now is 2-3 boxes per week; more than that on a regular basis and it isn't fun any more.

My bank would withdraw all my accounts and have the money sitting on the counter...." go on and get, don't come back ".

I am finding that volume to be a bit hard to believe. 68 boxes at an average of one second per coin is 47 hours of searching MINIMUM. That is a full time job, and I would expect my number is conservative....I call cow poop on this myth....unless you are just sorting copper in a ryedale....the likely hood of 68 boxes a week just doesn't pass the sniff test.
