Hi, I inherited my grandmother's coin collection which includes 4 Australian pennies. I'm not a collector or familiar with coins and I thought I would look here to see if anyone had an opinion on the value/grading of these coins. Any help is appreciated, thank you. 1939 front 1939 back 1929 front 1929 back 1920 front 1920 back 1911 front 1911 back

Not a lot in value there I'm sorry to say,the 1920 has to have a dot over the top scroll to be of any real interest to collectors and the other dates have to be in aUNC or better to attract any demand.

They all have quite a bit of wear but with the exception of the 1911 reverse they all seem to be undamaged and nicely toned.
Whilst the 1920 may be worth a couple dollars the others are probably worth less than a dollar. That's not to say they aren't nice examples of some nice old Aussie coins.

The 1929 Penny has the Indian Obverse die which is considered to be scarce. But there are alot of them around especially in the condition yours is in.

Yeah, lots of conflicting Info. on the 1929 Indian,i read on the net. a few years ago where only 1 die was used and the estimated mintage was less than 10,000 but having trouble finding link, found a similar one here.. http://www.catawiki.com/catalog/coi...dian-reverseWhatever the truth they're more common than the 27 Indian.

That information about the 1929 is false. I saw a Unc example on offer by a Sydney dealer earlier this year and he had that single die/scarce etc spiel to support a stiff price. So I went and checked the unsorted 1929s I have accumulated and from 20 pennies I found 10 were Indian and from several dies.

ScarletD. - just f.y.i. - 1911 was the first year that the Australian penny was minted. They're not scarce, but they are iconic.

Agree with all the comments above, but your coins can be had in bulk for between 10c and $1 each.
