So I have finally decided on how I am going to collect the proofs in my Franklin half dollar collection.

I decided against keeping them in an album, it just makes me nervous.

Though I am not a fan of slabbing, I think its the best way to do these proofs, some of which are not cheap.

Since I am going with slabs, I want a consistant look and a minimum grade. I much prefer the PCGS slabs to the NGC slabs, and I decided to make my goal PR65 CAM.

I know it will be a pricey set and I know it will be a challenge, but hey, thats the fun of collecting!

I have several raw proofs, some I will have graded, some I will sell, but I will only post the coins intended to be a part of my final product.

First up:

that one looks great! The early years will be the pricey, the later ones cheap

For me, I don't care which plastic, I just like cameos haha. I have some NGC and PCGS ones

I'm doing the full Franklin set in both BU and Proof. Got them housed in a Littleton album. I just can't get into having a set of slabbed coins, guess I am still old school. My Proofs are in the PF63-65 range so nothing earth shaking. I just like seeing everything together in an album.

I'm mostly the same with liking to see all the coins together.
I've decided to make this set an exception.

I bought a 1953, but pcgs has it and I'm hoping for the best. I bought it in an NGC set slab as a 65cam. Hoping pcgs feels the same. Time will tell.

A complete PR65 Cameo set of Franklins will be an awesome accomplishment and something to behold once finished. Good luck!

Congrats muddler. That's out of my league but good luck finishing your collection!
Are you including 1956 type 1 and the 61 double die?

Could a moderator please move this thread to the modern coin forum? I apologize, I didn't mean for it to be here.

Hondo, just a date set for me, I've been watching some 1954 and 1955 on ebay but haven't pulled the trigger on any recently.

Muddler, can you show some obv/rev pics of that last coin?
I love toned cameo proofs..... Speaking of toned cameo proofs, I got some good news yesterday from pcgs on the 1953 I bought a few months back.

Verdict is in, Pr65 CAM!

I am very excited and can't wait to have the newest member of the collection in hand.

That is going to be an awesome collection! The early ones are going to be tough to find and be quite expensive.

You can buy albums for slabs too. Here is an example of one:

Good luck and please keep us updated.
