Thanks :)
The issue with those is that they are not cheap - and have so many variants.
Prices quickly skyrocket with the colonial gold ones - particularly the late mexican ones (thanks to the US market / shipwreck craze there).
But cobs are particularly interesting indeed (I prefer silver ... mostly for a budget point of view) - and there are very interesting parts in their history (mints, the way they were traveling, designs, etc...).
Particularly those following the Potosi scandal, when the "grid" design emerged, with many intermediary types.
Although there are maybe some new stuffs to find, those are already well documented.
realeswatcher : at the beginning, the guy was selling without paypal and in France only ... he changed his mind, hopefully for him ;)
It's the 3rd gold cob I bought that way :
* the other one is just under it - almost as struck, doubled on a poorly made planchet (140€ less than this last one)
* the 3rd one was posted earlier (Felipe IV 1661 R 2 escudos, Bogota).
Those were all found in France by metal detector owners (actually I was only told so for the first one - but I'm sure it's the same for the two others).
I was also following the one being sold by coinworldtv - I bought him some nice coins already, but he usually knows how to sell those at high prices and he have usual clients...
Actually, that date was not listed until recently, the previous Calico didn't had it for example. Depends which reference he is using.
His coin was even better, with the essayer, mint mark, and more sharp.
I see you have some nice
ebay queries as well ;)
