This is my first try at posting a coin to be graded. The pictures make the coin seem brownish, it's more of a grey color. That funny looking spot on the rim below the IN on the obverse is a ding that doesn't go through the reeding. I'm not experienced enough to tell if the coin has been cleaned or dipped in the past, it was in my Dad's collection for at least 25 years. I'm grading it around VG-F, what do ya'll think.

Peace dollars are a weak area for me, but I'd hazard a guess that F12 would cover it. There's enough hair and wing detail, especially in this high-relief example, to justify Fine.

Peace dollars are also a weak area for me, and in circulated grades I am clueless. So, time to do some learning.
Why only vg-f? I would have said higher, perhaps vf-25.....PCGS gives the vf-30 grade to coins with almost complete detail with flat areas.....that's close to what I see in the pictures. Are there details missing on this piece? Are high reliefs graded differently than later date Peace dollars?
Although not big on Peace dollars (the spikes sticken' out of the head and all....) I kinda' like this one, trdhrdr007. It has lots of character, and I like that in a coin.

I'm just now easing into trying to get accurate grades for my raw coins. Up to now I have collected coins that were either in mint packaging, slabbed & graded by one of the reputable TPG's, or that looked AU or better. In the past I have collected raw coins that looked good to me, trying to buy at enough under "market value" to make up for my grading inexperience. I just don't know enough about coins to be confident in my grading. From my book I gave this coin a VF-20, but thought the rim ding would knock it down some.

On a side note I see you like toned coins, when you tilt this one just right there are light rainbows that show up on the reverse.

It looks F15 to me. I'd like to see a little more wing detail for a VF grade.
