OK, I'm a little frustrated. I've seen posts on this site discussing finds in bank rolls, new 2012 rolls of various denominations, etc. I am wanting a few rolls of the 2012 Lincoln Penny, so I went to 3 banks this last week and they all told me the same story; "We don't get those." What's the deal, they are a bank for goodness sakes!
When I pushed they said they don't get new coins in on a consistent basis, they are mixed rolls. So how are some of you guys getting these mint rolls? Friends behind the counter?

You have two choices, buy them from the mint/dealer or take your chance by buying boxes from the bank. The banks can't order a certain year anymore they get what they get.

I have found plenty of boxes of 2012 pennies from Philadelphia and have put aside my quota of them. However, I am still in hopes of finding a box from the Denver mint. In the end however, I'll probably have to be content with putting together a roll or two of the myself to satisfy my needs. I'm just to far away from Denver to have much of a chance of getting a box of Denver's, especially at this point of time.

I very seldom get Philly's out this way. I get excited when I see one of the 98 through 2000's but I've yet to find a wammy.

same here ray never found a WAM yet either even though I rarely search for pennies anymore and chances are when you get a box of coin, you will find the 2012's in there

You may get lucky checking a grocery store. They go through a lot of change. I scored a roll of 2012 dimes at one.

I was lucky enough to get several rolls of 2012 P pennies and nickels at one of our local banks. No D's however.
Rest in Peace

It's true, ordering rolls of coins is the luck of the draw. The banks were telling you the truth.

Okay here is what you need to do. Find 2-3 banks and order 20-40 boxes a week from each of them. With any luck you'll get more solid 2012 boxes then you know what to do with. Each year around the release, I would get an obnoxious amount of them. Up to an entire weekly order from one bank could potentially be brand new pennies. For the copper hunter this is not a fun hurdle.

People here will probably start getting them and you could probably get them at 2 or 3 times face...

If there is demand for 2012 cent rolls, I will keep an eye out for them. I see them all the time where I work but since I have no need of them I have never saved them. I will post here if I find any or you can PM me. They are almost always D mint. What about other denominations? Is there interest out there for other rolls?

Currently the 2012 numbers already look like they will be lower than the 2010-2011 years. But that doesn't make this year a really low mint year. P & D should both be above the billion mark. No where near the 2009 numbers. Unless 2012 is the last year they mint pennies, I doubt a large premium will develop for this year.

Personally I'd hold onto the AU halfs from 2008 and newer (under 2 million minted), and all nice examples of P, N, D's from 2009.

No, that is just obnoxious and it is the reason why banks are clamping down on roll searchers. Do it in moderation and banks usually have no problem. Recycle hundreds or thousands of dollars of change every week and you create problems for every single other roll hunter

Personally I'm getting sick of seeing solid rolls of 2012's. Getting harder around here to NOT find them.

Order coin in moderation from your bank; if you absolutely have to get a ton go to multiple banks. Banks will get tired of all of the work associated with huge orders and start to shut roll searchers off. Don't want to ruin it for everyone else.

I hate to disagree with you, but I am able to do this without any trouble. I made sure the Bank manager and branches could handle these types of orders. Then I asked what I could do to make the pick-ups easier for the staff, and the rest was cake (or 20-40+ boxes of pennies a week).

It was a lot more convenient to order $1500-2500/week from 3 banks versus 6+ locations. As long as you are open with the bank, and make sure you aren't overwhelming them, there isn't a reason why you can't do this yourself.

If you think it's obnoxious to order that much coin from one location I don't think I should tell you how much I returned to my dump banks

Sounds like your one of the few that can do that. You sort of missed the point of messing things up for many others though. Might well be true where your at but in many areas today, banks are making all sorts of rules due to this massive roll searching stuff. For example by me most banks will not even order rolls unless you have a buisness that requires coinage. I can no longer find a bank with a coin counter since all bulk coins are now sent out for couting. And there is a cost for this. If in rolls, an extra cost. No account, they'll send you a check and there is another cost for that. This is for all Chase and BOA banks in my area. If you walk into a bank and ask for rolls, you now must have an account and even then you are limited to an amount. And too, some are charging for ordering rolls for roll searchers. And all due to the few that do it all the time and the word spreads. Remember banks do talk to each other.
Then too as the poster mentioned, he is just told We Don't get those. They might actually get them but why should they spend money and time even looking. Banks are a buisness and appeasing roll searchers just makes no profit of any kind.

I am really lucky. No way do I order 20+ boxes of pennies (funds do not allow for that). I go to a bank in New Jersey once a week for a box . I dont even have an account there. They looked at me funny the first time I asked , but when I told them why I wanted them they had no problem selling me a box for face. I am assuming this bank does not have anyone else doing that. I haven't found that GOLD MINE coin yet but I have found tons of Copper, 1982's (all 7 types) A 1999 WAM and a 2000 WAM.,some minor Trail Dies, a lot of 1974 P & D,a lot of Wheats, 2012-P (but not full rolls), some varieties & errors (Minor Double Dies and Clashes)and my share of Canadians etc. They are all bank rolled coins. I am going to try their regional bank to see if I can get a bag, because I have heard you get a better sellection in them. I have tried several other banks in Pennsylvania (Philadelphia area) and New Jersey (Willingboro area) and found this bank I am going to to be the best with variety. I have not asked them about full boxes or rolls of 2012, but next time I will. Also I reroll all dump coins and take them back in a full box and just trade them for a new one. They seem to appreciate that. All those that get so many coins I can understand not rolling them though.lol.
