I should imagine that whoever graded this is now an "Ex Employee" at PCGS

That is hard to believe. It looks like it's pitted with maybe some scratches. Lots of die cracks also so it must have been the end of life for the dies.

Nasty looking MS coin. What are the chances that three sets of eyes concurred on this grade. Hmmmmm. nlp

It would be nice to read a comment from PCGS on this coin, maybe one of their members can forward the ebay link and request a comment... I thought PCGS had a buy-back policy if they overgraded a coin in their holder...

Shows that even the pro graders don't always get it right. That looks anything but MS.

Quote: I think it's the holder. The coin is probably in perfect condition but the slab is all messed up. The rear of the coin too is somewhat less than MS unless the rear of the slab too, is a mess. BUT there is FREE SHIPPING you know. Someone should really start a collection of all these dumb sales. Might make for a great book.

I remember when I sent my G4(my estimate and later validated) penny to NGC and it came back AU50. I was really mad Now I only use ANACS.

Quote: I thought PCGS had a buy-back policy if they overgraded a coin in their holder... They do if you send it in to be regraded and they agree it should be downgraded. Nothings perfect theyll have some mistakes from time to time. We also dont know when this coin was graded. It could have looked better when they saw it years ago. And it could just be the slab has gotten nasty or the picture is just bad.

I'm not quite sure what to think of this coin. Lots of marks, but some of that stuff looks like it's on the die, which would make it maybe the single most terminal die state I've ever seen. Look closer at what's happening around the date, and note the 4 full, clear diamonds.
A curious coin indeed.

I agree on the Die Deterioration. That was my first guess, and the more I look at it, and all of the die cracks, the more it looks like it was struck with a die ready to disintegrate. That may be why it graded so high.

I don't know, but that person willing to pay over $760 must have higher screen resolution than I do, beacause even if it is the holder, I sure wouldn't pay over $500 for that thing.
