Actually, the patina on that coin should protect it. Under these particular circumstances, OK to handle as shown. Would have preferred to see it in some sort of holder.

I have never seen fingerprints on an ancient coin.

That's not a good look, is it?

The other thing is that it could so easily slipped out of her fingers, and onto the floor.. At $450K plus, I'd have been using the kid glove treatment - that's like holding my house between thumb and forefinger

As these were originally a non Australian and probably circulated coin when they were altered and counter stamped
There would be little chance that there would be a coin surviving in a grade that would require extreme handling protection.
I doubt very much that there would be any patina remaining on these to get damaged via the odd fingerprint

As I said BURN THEM OFF! Hopefully the seller isn't a dentist!

Makes you wonder who or what has touched your coins before

My main concern with the OP photo shot is not the fact she's not wearing gloves, but that she's holding the coin way up off the ground; I assume there's a big fluffy object just out of camera shot for it to land on, in case she drops it. A drop from that height onto a sharp object or hard surface could create a dint or edge knock that subtracts tens of thousands of dollars off the value.

In that sense, not wearing gloves is good, since you're far more likely to mishandle and drop a coin while wearing gloves.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

I doubt very much that another couple of dings or scratches will make any difference to the condition of that particular coin

I agree with Sap.
Some years ago I held the highest graded example of a 1931 dropped 1 Indian ($18,000 at the time) when the dealer showed it to me.
I dropped it (bummer).
Luckily my other hand caught it.

Some on CCF can't really complain about this. Probably 1/4 of the pictures posted here or in the auction section are of coins in someone's ungloved hand.

edit - more like 1/4 of the pictures here
