Hello,
I can't find information on this anywhere, and I figured this community would be a good place to ask! For a part of my wedding favors, I need about 200 shiny new 2012 US Pennies but I can't figure out where I could get them. I've tried US Bank and Wells Fargo and both say they just get an assorted roll and can't guarantee any 2012 pennies would be in them. Does anyone have any ideas where I can get them for face value or close?
Thanks!

Thanks! I saw an auction for some rolls at a similar price. Not too bad of a markup as I only need about 200 of them, but was hoping for a possibly easier/faster option. Do you think I'd have luck buying a bunch of rolls from the bank, sorting out the 2012 ones and then depositing the rest back into my account?

You might be able to get that many from mixed rolls, but it all depends on where you live. Some areas tend to get more newer coins than other areas. You could skip around to the other banks in your area and see if any other banks have the new rolls. You just might get lucky. Otherwise, I'd say the ebay auction would be your best option. And....

For me, it's been hit or miss at the banks. I bank with Bank of America and when I get boxes of cents from them for coin roll hunting, it's been about 50-50 of brand spankin' new cents versus mixed older ones. So you could try that if you wanted.
But's no guarantee and you could be wasting time/gas driving around to no avail. That auction is a buy it now auction, so you could buy 4 rolls for $4 tonight and have them by Friday.

I can't actually find a spot to PM you in your profile... but that would be awesome if we could figure something out!
I bought about 15 rolls of assorted pennies from the bank last night and did some hunting. Came away with around 35-40 pennies. Not too bad! I'll go deposit the extras at lunch and pick up another batch. I'm not going to lie, it was pretty fun hunting through the rolls trying to find the 2012s. You can tell pretty easily from a side view which ones are new. Thanks for the tips guys!

And @goldnugget - I live in MN, wedding is in WI. We need them probably by the end of this week to make sure that we have time to put the favors together.

Possibly the fastest and cheapest method would be the roll searching thing. Hopefully anyway.

Update for you guys - After the relatively low success rate of the assorted rolls from last night, I went in to US Bank again today fully expecting to buy ~50 rolls. I told the teller my story and asked to buy some of the assorted rolls. She pulled the box of rolls out from under the counter and opened it, and it was completely full of rolls of shiny 2012 pennies. It must be my lucky day! She even high fived me.

Great Find, ellingjt! It seems to me that when it comes to 2012 cents (pennies) they are in extremely abundant supply. Glad you found what you needed!
