Judging by the porous nature of the coin, I am assuming that this is just badly corroded. Seems to be attracting a lot of intereest though.

The listing says it came from a smokers estate and may smell of tobacco. Maybe this was in his ashtray?

I asked the seller how he came to the conclusion that the coin was copper and his response was"The guy I bought it from told me it was copper."
He was thinking about removing his listing until he got a couple of hits.

What happens to silver coins in a house fire. This should be another thread topic, but I'm wondering if this coin suffered extreme heat?

Gosh, maybe it's a real crappy sand cast counterfeit which should be reported?
Rest in Peace

I'm no expert but that was my first thought when I saw it. Looks fake.

It does not look like a fake. I think it is a normal coin, circulated and that went through a lot of physical abuse and some chemical attack (part of it, dipping solution)

For those of us who are interested in post-strike damage, it is a "fantastic" coin. In my opinion it worth ... melt, plus a small premium for the find.
