I was wondering if would be worth to spend the money to have a 2009 silver eagle graded?

And in turn we need some info from you. I can only assume this is a bullion ASE? I personally don't think it's worth it to pay the money and the grading fees unless you're positive it will grade 69 or 70. And even then it might be safer to sell it as-is for 30 bucks if you can get it and bid on one on ebay for $90 such as this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-AMERIC...em3cc79a5471

Without seeing the coin I would say no. Unless you hit a perfect 70 youll end up losing money from what you pay for grading and the final value. Thats just from a financial standpoint though. If you want it graded and dont mind the expense and just want to do it then it is worth it. Its really up for you to make that decision. Financially the chances are it wouldnt be, but again youre own reasons can outweigh that such as if it was a keep sake from a passed loved one you want to protect or just because you want too

Yes celticknot it an ASE bullion. That why I asked I wasn't sure if it was profitable to get it graded. I'm new to the whole grading thing so I'm unsure if it will hit 69-70. I will upload a picture in a minute and see what everyone thinks.

JDM I would save the money if your just hoping to make money off it. The bullion ones dont get the huge premiums even in a 70 that the proof or uncir do

This one is uncirculated. That's why I'm curious. My dad had it hidden away since '09

I have a hard time telling the difference between the bullion and uncir from pictures. Is it the bullion or the uncirculated w one. The bullions are techinically uncirculated but they are a different coin. The Ws in a 70 will cost a little more.

It said its uncirculated. But how can you tell the difference? What should I look for?

If it came from the mint in an uncirculated ogp its probably that. But look for a W mint mark. The uncir will have it the bullion wont. I believe it should be on the reverse near the eagles left foot But actually I just remembered that in 2009 they only made a bullion version so just use what I said above for future reference. For what its worth you can get pcgs 70s of that on ebay for 75 dollars. some go over 100 but there are buy it nows for 75. If you got a 70 you could make some money, but its kind of a long shot and most likely would end up costing you money. No one can tell you if its actually a 70 or not till its be graded the line is so fine. Even the big websites that cherry pick giant boxes cant hit a 70 every time

Save your money on having it certified. MS-69 and below only get you bullion prices so you'll lose the slabbing fee and all shipping charges.

Ok gotcha. Thanks very much!! I think I may send to get graded anyway. Who knows maybe I'll get lucky!! I also have a 1881-O Morgan and a 34 Washington quarter I'm going to send to get graded also.

You'd be better off buying another silver eagle for what it will cost you to slab that one.

If you want to slab it go for it. Its all how you like it an how you do it. I know often times everyone always says not to because it wouldnt be smart financially but thats not the end all be all. I enjoyed sending my first coins in, was ultimately disappointed lol but it was exciting. Just do whatever you want to do, just dont do it think you found a great way to make money

basebal that is good advice. But for what its worth, I would add that jdm also take the time to learn what the garding requirements are before the money is spent. I may be mistaken but doesn't PCGS have grading sumaries of what constitutes the barious numeric grades. If so, I would recommend that that source is visited. Just my Two Cents
