My question/poll is this is it worth saving our clad JFK's? I now have $600+ in rolled JFK's that I have rolled according to date and mm. Is this stupid or think there will ever be a market for the clads? These are the only ones my Wife and I have ever considered taking into bank to put into savings. Thank you for these great forums and opportunities to let green horns ask their basic questions.

are they MS? are they cherried for quality? if the answer is no to both questions, and there are no varieties- then deposit them or spend them.

I agree with cc99999. You might want to go through them and start a single collection of the best coins and save any really nice duplicates and take the rest to the bank. Having a collection like this will help you in detecting varieties as well.

There are quite a few really sharp ones if memory serves me correctly. That sounds like a good idea cherry pick the nice ones a put into flips then dump rest. Thank you for your opinions.

Don't forget to check for varieties.

It takes some time to learn them and you'll miss more at first but you never know what you can find. Use the CONECA site and rotated die site etc. Youmight want to just check the major varieties at first and common or easy to spot ones.

I've never gotten very interested in very minor varieties but some people collect them all.

I'd also recommend finding a list of the rarest dates and mintmarks and keeping any coins of those years that are in good condition.

I suggest getting an Album, attempt to get a set complete, spend the rest. It is fun to spend them. I try to get rolls of them as often as possible and mostly for spending. I get the same odd looks as when I spend a $2 bill. At least no one gives me that thanks a lot look as when spening or trying to spend those baby sized dollars.

We just bought an 8166 Dansco yesterday and will work the nicest ones into the album and put nice ones into flips. After that I will take rest to the bank and put into the savings account. Thank you all for your comments into this matter.

I would suggest any 1982 and 1983 coins, that are in AU or better .. and problem free.
Would be some good coins to keep.

I agree with others .. keep the best set and dump the rest

Keep the MS ones and sell the rest back to the bank.
Then you will have some coin cash to pick up a Classic Half

We appreciate all your opinions and will be doing like you are saying and keeping the nice ones and dumping the rest. Last night we started putting the nicer ones in our new book and popping proof sets to fill all our books. That was a lot of fun but made my wife wince every time I cracked the seals. I was thinking about all the halves and everything and was wondering if it would be smart to keep all the 2000+ years that we find since most were only available in sets? Thank you all very much for responses and trust me that you all are helping us out tremendously.

Oh boy.
I remember from years ago, that early clad coins were ignored.
So, the advice to cherry pick the nice examples and take the rest to a bank is perhaps the best advice that can be given.
If gotten for face value, there is nothing to loose.

Don't forget to check for the 72D, 82P, 83P's where there is no FG (designer's initials) on the REV. Also, 72, 73D, and 74D has some decent double die errors - look at the JFK roll hunter thread to see some pics. Also there is a 71D double die - but the doubling is mainly just on the bottom of the letter I in "IN GOD." and I have no trouble finding those at all.
