I'm new to looking at JFK Halves under magnification and am unfamiliar with die varieties in general. What are your opinions on this coin? I see a little something at the bottom of the 'S'. Is there a good reference guide someone can recommend. I've heard of Cherrypicker's guide but dont have it. Are there any good resources on the internet? Below are two pics of the same coin under different lighting:

Is this a 1967 Half? Cherrypickers shows something very similar to yours for that year. Your coin is definately showing a split serif on the S, so it is a doubled die.

FS-50-1967-102 DDO 1967 JFK "Doubling is visible on WE TRUST, in the date, and on portions of the hair under the R in LIBERTY." p.284 CherryPickers' Guide 4th Volume. Good eye! On the one I found, there is visible doubling inside the loop of the 9 in the date and also on the R itself in LIBERTY. Sorry no pics - its not here to take them!

I found another potential DDO in my coins as well. This USB Microscope is definitely bringing me into the world of varieties. Below is a picture of 2 1969D Half Dollars that I have. I dont really know what to look for because I have not gotten CherryPickers Guide yet (It should be in the mail!), so at this point I'm mostly comparing two similar coins. In this case, the upside down 'B' shows some doubling. Is this an attribute of a well known DDO or just Machine Doubling? I can provide more pictures if needed. Thanks all

Looks like MD to me. Typical flat shelf. I am not an expert, but have been trying to pay a lot of attention to this for awhile now and am thankful for the info that can be found on the forum here. Unfortunately I bought my volume 4 CherryPickers' Guide just a month or so before Volume 5 came out (did not know enough to know 5 was about due). Volume 4 shows no DDOs for the 69D.

I see a very minor class 2 doubled die, but do not think it would be listed in the CherryPickers' Guide - it's too minor.

If the CherryPickers' Guide will list the 1968-D Kennedy half dollar DDO-002 (FS-101)within it's pages then they will list almost anything. For the record, the 5th edition of the CherryPickers' Guide even listed this time around a coin that was deemed "too minor" for the CONECA files.
