A seller on ebay must be wondering why he has 30 bids and it is now at 350. He has a full vine and I think a lot of people noticed this but he does not say anything in his description. The no is 150881224728 if you are interested.

The coin was cleaned harshly, apparently some time ago. Still, it is a rare variety.

I have been watching that one. I still think it is worth almost double that and did see the full intact vine. My dream was to jump in on the last 10 seconds for the steal but it was just a dream.

You can still find those unattributed at coin shows (Rob can correct me, but I think there are three reverse dies like this, but this auction was not the elusive RA2) , so I am reluctant to compete for that variety on ebay...

I would definately like to find a reasonable price for one of those 1858's. It would be a highlight of my one cent coins in my collection.

Personally, I think with the coin being cleaned in that condition it is worth $400-$450

OE1/RA1 with what seems to be a harshly cleaned reverse. A scarce die marriage, but not the scarcest full vine (OF1/RA2).

Can someone point out clues to a cleaning in the OBVERSE?
The reverse seems to show it clearly. But, I can't see it in the obverse.

Those full vines are great to collect. With the exception of the RA2, there are other coins in the 58 series, just as or more scarce and difficult to find. Rob can correct me here but reviewing his publications, I see 61 different die pairings. I have managed to collect 41 of them to date. The hunt continues.

Rob has more than 200, at last count...
