The B looks like it was incused with another B over it. Is this called an over polished die? Sorry the pictures are not the greatest, I can't get the lighting right on this one.

I cant really tell from the pic whats up with the B but I can tell you that 64 was a prolific year for nickels ,, and many show signs of Die Deterioration from over use of the dies.

Fishnwidow I cant offer anything on the B but on the light try to put a piece of paper or something in from or between the coin and the light it will take out a lot of the glare. your pic's are not that bad I would bet you get a mean pic of a new shinny cent .i use that method and it works very well for me. but on the silver or nickel coins you have to do funny things. remember how you had to hold the TV antenna in the 60's lol same idea lol

Thanks for the photo tip, I'll try it out. Oh, by the way, I wasn't born until the 70's.

They never stopped a coin press in 1964 try to get the most out of dies because there was about to be a coin shortage. the mint's were trying to pull all silver coins in 1965 so they over produced coinage in 1964 plus the Kennedy half dollar had people in line around banks
