Just got back from King Kullen , they have a coin star machine there . As always, I stuck my hand in the reject tray and came out with 2 handfuls change ,a Canadian one dollar coin 1986, 1946 wheatie,and a couple of other foreign coins . But what surprised me the most was a whole bunch of modern U.S. pennies ,nickels dimes and quarters . They were not damaged in any way and clean not dirty . What were they doing in the return tray ? has anything like this ever happened to anyone else at a coin star?  Edited by T-BOP

Nice haul!  I am not sure why they were in the tray. Perhaps the machine needs calibration. |

has anything like this ever happened to anyone else at a coin star? In my experience, this is usually the result of the person forcing too many coins into the machine at once. I've seen it happen on quite a few occasions. As for me, there were two dimes and a nickel in one of the two Coinstars I visited today... As I pulled the one coin from the reject bin, I heard "that" happy sound... 64 years young!   CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

That 1952 looks to be AU+, and the 1934 looks to be in very nice shape too, though the reverses of that period (1932-1939 or so) can be very mushy. Speaking of my find, I was at my LCD discussing it a few weeks ago. He said he had heard of a few others with similar experiences. He just shook his head when he saw my pictures. I also posted this under circulation finds, but I had my first Coin Star "silver success" today as I pulled out a BU 1963-D Washington quarter and a 1963-D Roosevelt dime. The reject tray also held a clad quarter and three Lincolns. My local grocery store recently reorganized and moved everything around, including the Coin Star machine. It went from right by the exit door to a far corner of the lobby, where, it appears, it is checked out less frequently. Good for me. Success at last!   Paul Bulgerin

Today was probably my weirdest find since I started looking, because I found a 1937 and 1940 penny in the reject slot, a Canadian and British penny, and a cash voucher for Two Cents. I'm not even kidding- someone ran three pennies through the machine and left the voucher for someone else to take on the counter. The customer service woman gave me a weird look and said "it's only 2 cents" but I told her I didn't care, it was still money. |

That is indeed very weird. A good number of the wheat cents from 1940 through 1942 were made on overweight planchets (particularly 1941), so these are often found in their reject bins. I was in the store where the Coinstar machine is located and TWO people used the machine to cash in large plastic jars of coins. BOTH of them retrieved all their rejects!  |

Had my first coinstar find in a while today at the grocery store. A very nasty Lincoln Cent with a bunch of white corrosion on it. Free money though. |
