Hi everybody. I was looking for some help with this coin but I think I already know the answer. It is worn and the mint mark is not visible and I didn't know if there was another way to tell if it's a Denver coin. I'm prepared for bad news. Lots of scans with different angles. Not that it's going to help. Thanks for any help and I hope everybody has a great weekend.

I don't think it's possible to tell on this coin.

Cannot tell on this coin, the rim is worn away too far up.

I once had many of these worn out 16 "D", but after looking at most of these I started to hallucinate if there was a "D" there.

The bottom line is if you can't distinguish any sign at all, even if it was a key date, it has almost completely loss its real value.

macmercury, I love your response. Sometimes I look at the coin and I see Elvis or maybe it's Moses. This makes it more valuable, does it not? I need to put the coin away or sell it for silver and stop the hallucinations. Dreaming is fun but it's better when I'm asleep.

I'm just curious but you can raise a date on a severely worn Buffalo nickel with vinegar or Nic-a-date. Couldn't you do that with this coin to try and see if there was a D ?

Would the vinegar cause discoloration or damage? It is an acid.

Got me, I've never tried vinegar on a silver coin.

Vinegar and nic-a-date do not work on silver.

I see the small spot that looks like it could be the top serif of "D". There are some diagnostics on the net or this site that may be helpful. nlp

Your coin is in near P01 condition. Impossible to tell, even the TPG's.

Is there any die rotation? The answer to that question won't prove "yes," but it could prove "No."

It's just too worn to see any D that might have/might have not been there at one time.

Sorry!

Well, at least we can provide you peace of mind, if not true happiness: all 1916-D reverses have some slight rotation.

Yep! As with all other Mercury dimes in the series! Slight die rotation!
