The following is a release from the US MintDesigns for the 2013 Girl Scouts of the USA Centennial Silver Dollar were unveiled tonight by Girl Scouts of the USA National President Connie L. Lindsey and Chief Executive Officer Anna Maria Chávez before hundreds of guests at the 100th Anniversary Experience Exhibition Preview and Dinner Under The Stars hosted by Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas. The commemorative coin, authorized by Public Law 111-86, honors the 100th anniversary of the organization established on March 12, 1912, by Juliette Gordon Low in Savannah, Georgia. The obverse (heads side) design, by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) Master Designer Barbara Fox, depicts three girls who represent the different ages and the diversity of the Girls Scouts of the USA. Inscriptions include COURAGE, CONFIDENCE and CHARACTER, key elements of the Girl Scouts mission statement. Additional inscriptions are 2013, LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. The 100th anniversary Trefoil symbol signifies its centennial anniversary. United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill will execute the obverse design. The reverse (tails side) design, by AIP Associate Designer Chris Costello, depicts the iconic Trefoil/profiles symbol of the Girl Scouts of the USA with the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, $1 and GIRL SCOUTS. United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Joseph Menna will execute the reverse design. As authorized, the United States Mint will produce up to 350,000 coins in 90 percent silver. The legal tender coin, which will have a face value of $1, will be available in both proof and uncirculated qualities. Surcharges collected from coin sales are authorized to be paid to the Girl Scouts of the USA, which will make funds available for Girl Scout program development and delivery. The United States Mint expects the coins to be available for purchase early in 2013.

I wonder how the detail will look on the observe with the current proof "pitting" look.

After they put a woman on the Boy Scout dollar, I was half expecting a man on the Girl Scout commem.

There are girls that are allowed in the Boy Scouts. They are 14+ and are in Explorer troops. With the Girl Scouts, there are no place for boys and they don't want male leaders.
Not a huge fan of the commem. I'll have to get it for the set but it will wait for the secondary market.

I am not involved with Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, but if I were I would probably get one of each group.

Since I was a Girl Scout for 5 years in my life, I plan on picking one up. I'm not to thrilled with the obverse design. I feel that it falls flat. The reverse is superb! It's a sleek & classy modern design of the trefoil. I agree with Hondo... Only if it ame with mints.

I like the looks of it - especially since the insane PC junk (like the Boy Scout coin) is not represented.

It is an interesting looking commem. It'll be interesting to see how it sells. I did buy the Boy Scout commem, since I am one (once a boy scout, always a boy scout irregardless of age ). My sisters were in girl scouts and my mother was a leader, so I don't know if I will buy one or not, yet.
