Sometimes it really does pay to go over your collection once in a while. I'm not even sure of when I found/bought this piece, so finding it was a nice surprise.

The black arrows indicate the range of the letter doubling, the circle has some marks but have no idea how the got there. As well there is a half moon shape in front of the beavers face (left side).

I can't even count how often I've gone over different aspects of all my coins. I learn new things every day on this forum. It's awesome.

The doubling, I can not see but what you see in the circle is due to die clash. Note, this die clash is also called "straps in back of head"

The doubling on the obverse is light and is found on the top of the letters.

Good to know what the marks are called, thank you.

Love the strong doubling on that nickel, Roger! Those linear die clashes on the reverse can also be found in varying degrees of length, sometimes running from the log the beaver sits on up to the "1" and around under the word "CENT". And often you can find marks in the king's ear as well. If you check the other coins in your collection you may find them on the other years of the 1940's or even late 30's, right through to about 1951 or so. A truly nice little set to hunt down, and you should be able to find several to augment your set. Good luck with the hunt and congrats on your find!

@pennysaver Are you saying that the 1 cent coins have similar Die Clashes? Have you seen more of these in the 5 cents?
