OK. This is my request/challenge. I'm curious what is (in your opinion) the prettiest GOLD coin in YOUR collection. Not a picture of one you admire, not one in your uncles collection but one you possess. This can be Any gold coin be it bullion, business, commemoratives, fractional, U.S., non-U.S., trade, Norfed, or anything that you want to share so long as it's gold. And maybe a little about the coin and how you obtained it. Remember, this is not about the most valuable but more about beauty. Let's see your beauties. I'll start: My 2007 First Spouse Series .9999 fine gold at 15.554g. This one features on the obverse a reproduction of the Draped Bust Half Cent and the reverse is President Jefferson's Grave Marker at Monticello. The strange thing is that on the boxes and certificate the coin is referred to as uncirculated when it is most definitely a proof. Minted at West Point. I obtained this coin in trade for 24k gold jewelry. We traded dollar for dollar on gold value. I got a smokin' deal. I figured I'd share a coin not often seen.

When I read the topic I had the urge to post this: The stamps on either side of the coin represent a set of 15 which were printed with the same dies as were used for the coins. Three coins in all. Made with gold foil. The Coat of Arms on the reverse is what I find pretty. The Canadian 1967 set, with the $20 gold piece, was not yet allowed into the US. Just why this coin showed up at a coin show some 35 years ago is a mystery to me. Cost me $30, which for a teenager was a LOT of money!

My prettiest gold coins are my $5 Indians (until I add a $10 Indian) but this is my favorite. First gold I bought in 1962 for $40. That was a 40 hour paycheck at minimum wage after taxes the Summer between 10th & 11th grades. Just can't beat the feel of a Double Eagle in hand.

Technically not a "coin" but a gold barter round made by Liberty Dollar. Sorry for the bad pics - morning sunlight - need to get a good setup one day and take better pics. I wish I had gotten the ounce one back when you could get these. They never show up for sale anymore it seems. I love the classic-ish design and details of this proof beauty.

The 2009 Double Eagle would be hard to beat.
The U.S. Mint spent considerable time and effort on the concept, design and quality standards to produce this beauty.

Today if we wanted that same coin it would be more like 250 hours at minimum wage as compared to 40. that's insane.

svslav: Your florin is in about the same condition as mine. Nice coin.
The Gothic Crown is a real 'star', and they made three of those in PROOF GOLD.

IndianGoldEagle, your 2009 Ultra High Relief is Ultra Way Cool. That thing looks like it should be a presentation medal. She's a real beauty. And yes jeffrose, the 10 gold indian is a fine coin. I have one and was going to show it but I decided to point posters into a different direction showing things less common. But commons are beautiful too. Actually, at todays prices, anything made of gold is beautiful.
