I have a friend who comes across some really nice, high dollar coins. I normally can't pay big money but a trade can work well too. I was the owner of a three piece US General tool box with assorted mechanic tools. I had approximately 500 in the set tool boxes. The resale used value of the tools where around 2200 - 2400 but it could take me months to liquidate these tools. So I worked a trade and I got the 1799 PCGS graded one dollar Heraldic Eagle. This is my first Heraldic and oldest US dollar. 1. Think I did OK? Keep in mind the tools with boxes weighed in at about 1100 pounds and the coin weighs in at 26 plus grams excluding the case. 2. You verse PCGS PS He showed me an 1800 Heraldic Eagle silver dollar that was PCGS graded at AU53 but this one would cost around 5 house payments.

What a great coin. Honest surfaces and even features; no problems at all. Grading is not my strong point, but I'd estimate 1200-1500$ value. Your 1799 looks exactly like the one that got passed around in high school a *long* time ago, putting a bug in my mind that was not satisfied until I bought my own 1799 on ebay a few years ago. This is a supremely historic piece that anyone would be proud to own. You can replace those tools anywhere if you need to. Congrats.

Look on CL and you will see a slew of out of work mechanics selling their tools. How many 1799 Silver Dollars do you see for sale? Unless it was all high end Snap On stuff, I would take that trade any day.

1) can't comment on the trade ( I don't trade my tools!) But would think about if I was offered this! 2) I'll say it is a VG8 but I am no expert on the series 3) I love it!! An almost entirely mark free LARGE silver coin from the 18th century used numerous times. Just amazing. Congrats on the coin!

I don't know much about tools and the market for those but I do know that you got an attractive coin in return. I think the coin would grade VG-8.

Very nice BB-165 B-8! Look at the lower right corner of the N in UNITED; the N was repunched after originally being punched upside-down. I'm guessing VG-8, and if PCGS gave it a grade that you're having us guess at, I'm guessing it's problem-free. Looking at the Heritage archive, don't think that would pay for $2200 of tools, though.

I believe U.S. General is a chinese made brand of tools/toolboxes that Harbor Freight sells. So you traded some low end Chinese made tools for an authentic high end American made coin! A good trade in my book. A very nice coin, I'm hoping to be able to afford one of those someday.

Beautiful coin. I'm enjoying the even wear, uniform color and lack of any significant circulation damage.

I'd like to give it F-12 for nice, original eye appeal but VG-10 seems about right. Nice trade, although if a good work opportunity comes around you might miss having the right tools...
