Did your heart skip a beat when you saw it? Look again and shout "YESSS".
Nice find.

thanks to all for the responses and to Jeff, It was an excellent feeling but a bit like the birth of your second child. The first one gets all the photos taken and videos of first steps and the second one is a case of been there done that. Having said that I love both coins just as much as each other and the kids as well off course.

I hate to be the party pooper here and I HOPE I'm wrong, but are we sure this is a wavey 20c. The top "line" on the bottom of the 2 looks straight to me, with some PMD just above. Like I said I hope I'm wrong. If I am, then great find Coin Hunter. Congratulations.

Quote: but are we sure this is a wavey 20c. Its definately a wavy 20 The wave on the bottom of the 2 is usually set back in slightly from what I have seen so it doesn't catch the light as well as the rest of the horizontal stroke of the 2

Hi Peter S T When I saw the images I took I had the same thoughts as you. But thanks the Stevo1962's description when I compared it with my other wavy with light from different directions they both looked the same.

Definitely genuine. The wave in the bottom stroke of the 2 will look quite different with different light angles. But this one has the "scallop" in the wave above and the thin, lower section of the downstroke of the 2. They are sure indicators.
I have seen "made" ones where the bottom stroke of the 2 has a nicely defined wavey shape but the other two properties are not there.
Jeff PS. It is still exciting to find an eighth "kid".

Glad I was wrong. Shows how much I have left to learn about decimals.
Once again, Congrats TCH.

I don't mean any disrespect but how rare are these. I have spent a couple of mins every day look for it but with no avail. I would like to have some sort of figure so I know if it's worth bothering bank tellers for bag loads of 20 cent coins.
And nice find there!

They are very very very very hard to find in circulation!
There is no definitive mintage but it is likely it was from one die run. Many would have already been destroyed. I would say that after the 2000 $1/10c mule it would be the toughest variety in the decimal series.

Quote: how rare are these There were just over 58,000,000 20¢ for 1966. About 10,000 to 12,000 seems to be the most common estimate of the number of wavey 2. In my book that is a rare coin. I noodle in excess 60,000 20¢ coins per year and average about one of these each year. Jeff
