Read an old Australian Coin Review (Dec 1988) and on page 26 in a list of coins for auction I read this:
Lot 124 "Australian 50c 1983 with 12 teeth like projections around edge very unusual". The estimate was $200.
It got me
The only similar error that I could think of was for 20 cent coins on Hong Kong blanks, but what foreign coin would be of the size of a 50 cent coin?
I realised that either Steve would have this coin or he would really really want it to complete his collection.
Any ideas?

Maybe the blank was slightly rotated when it was struck.

I think that's probably the only possible explanation.

apologies to the original owner of the file, I can't remember where I picked it up from... may be TPP's site, anyway here is an example.

Agree with the above, my coin, my pic
Very cool errors to have too, they can pierce through the cardboard 2x2's easy. Back when I was using cardboard 2x2's I reinforced them with Eagle Mount mylar on the pointy side!
