that's exactly what it is, I haven't seen high premium ASE's other than the 1996 or 2006 I believe :) (can't remember which one)

Exactly the 1996 one is the lowest minted bullion one which so far has given it a premium.

Theres so many different ones it can be confusing at first, I know it was to me at least when I started my non bullion set

When you guys are buying ASE do you buy the 2012 or try to buy good looking older dates? I started buying the 2012 but have shifted and last few purchases have been other dates that look good for their age. For some reason Provident sells older dates at a slightly higher price than 2012 which runs opposite to what you might believe that the brand new unhandled ones might be worth more than the pre-owned, lol.

The older dates have a lower mintage, so those who believe that they might eventually gain some numismatic premium, the older dates would be better. I have a dansco album with ASEs, so I have one from each year. Aside from that, it doesn't matter to me what year they are.

Older can mean harder to find for someone just starting a new collection. That makes for higher prices. As SDCrow said mintage also controls it. They made a lot in 2012 so not as collectable. Keep in mind most of these are not handled. Stores by them by the Monster Box (500 coins) all in tubes. Most of them don't see the light of day.

Just to expand on that a little the older ones also have potentially fewer nice looking ones. While the stores dont handle them some people do. If all you want is the silver just stick with the current year and you may get lucky and end up with a lot of one with a premium like people who bought a lot of 96s did

Of the standard bullion issues, the one that I pay a little more for is the 1986. Both of my LCSs charge $3 over on eveything but the 1986. That one will $5-7 over depending on how good the condition is.

I was thinking the older ones might have some slight extra value. I bought a 10x Loupe and was inspecting my coins and I have a 1993 that is more flawless than the 2012's I bought, I was like how does that happen?! lol

Short answer. You can send a roll of 1993 ASE's to be graded. Within that roll you may get one MS70, several MS69's, a few MS68's and many that they call BU or Gem (MS60-65). Your 2012 is probably BU but low end. Your 1993 is higher. That is why some people pay premium dollars for MS70. Few out there compared to lower grades.

As a collector of ASE's my records show this one was my most expensive purchased in 2007. Since then the premiums have dropped but it did complete the set.

A close second would be these two from this year just to keep the set current.

Still the only one missing and would be the most costly would be the 1995 w still too costly for me to obtain.

What's the cost of a movie ticket these days?

I don't know. Last time I checked, it was $8.50 per person. This makes a movie from Red Box a heckuva good deal. For $2.00 or less, my wife and I can both watch a movie, make popcorn, pause the show any time we want, set the volume so that it is not pounding our hearing into early failure, and have a great view on our 50" plasma HDTV system. There are no wailing infants, obnoxious teens, costly snacks, or pop-sticky floors with which to contend either.

The RP in the 2012 set actually has a lowest mintage than the 2006 set but more of them have been graded perfect. Will be interesting to see if the lower mintage raises the value at all
