So, VACookey and I went to the Annandale coin show Sat and picked up some pretty good stuff. I grabbed a bunch of pennies for my Dansco from a bargain bin and the last two Kennedys to complete that Dansco! That will get its own thread in the next day or two. But I mainly went to get my first GSA Morgan, which I did. That got taken right on over to the ANACS table and sent for grading. Hoping for possibly a PL on the obverse. It's close. The other thing I went in with full intention of getting was my first colonial. And I found one! Here it is, my first colonial copper, a 1788 New Jersey: I had to crank the contrast all the way down and brightness all the way up to get details to show. My good lights are still in packing boxes. Next, this was not a planned purchase, but when I saw her, I said to the wife, "ONE of us is taking that girl home with us." It ended up being me LOL My second Trade dollar, 1877S: At some point she will be cracked out of that annoying NGC slab and sent to ANACS. And finally. This one made VACookey shake her head. Go to a coin show and buy a fossil. LOL Hey, if someone is going to bring perfectly good fossils to a coin show, then why NOT satisfy my two favorite hobbies at once? LOL

The NJ appears to have lots of meat and the Trade dollar has a really nice look. The fossil is cool, too, though I do not know much about fossils.

argentum...yep, I am lucky enough to have a wife that loves coins too. Only problem is we both end up wanting the same coins sometimes. The trilobite was 70.00 and is 8 inches long. There were folks there with artifacts ranging from Egyptian to Civil War and a smattering of stamp stuff. The Trade just screamed take me home. How could I refuse the lady? There were plenty of others there, but this one had the right combination of looks and affordability. Kind of like what one looks for in a real woman. Tom, the NJ is a nice example. Its a dark coin so I am having trouble getting pics that look as good as it does in real life. The dealer had just got the coin the day before the show and he gave us a good deal on it and two Capped Bust halves. Being a regular at shows and getting to know some folks helps a lot. Having a pretty wife doesn't hurt either. LOL

Nice NJ Colonial. Since I am now living in NJ after a long time away I started reading up on the NJ coppers with the intent to collect and preserve. I met a real passionate collector/dealer of NJ colonials. He took me through everything; very nice guy. At the end of our discussion he said "lets get you started with your first NJ copper." I said I wasn't buying yet as I was still learning the subject. He said "no problem, have this one for free". He then handed me a shiny copper. He struck his own tokens with a similar NJ effigy on the front, and his name and contact info on the back. I guess I'm now on the way!

I like the coins and my new homestate's state fossil is pretty cool as well. I really like the circulation cameo on that Trade dollar.

And I just visited the fossil forum I post on. Turns out I got rooked. That particular fossil is a good 70% repaired, ie, a fake. I knew fossils from Morocco have a high rate of forgery, but did not take the time to examine this one closely.
Morale...it's not just coins where fakes can fool even experienced collectors.
