For me, I got into it just last August, but I've been saving circulation pieces long before that. My grandpa is also a collector and has a thick album of world coins which he gave to me last summer too. And one more question, I just want to know why are you into coins? It should be an interesting discussion.

I started in the late '80s after my grandmother showed me a few old coins that she had and gave me an indianhead! It's been off and on since then! As to why I am into coins, I don't really know. I remember being really fascinated but the coins my grandmother had because the designs were different, but beyond that I don't know.

I first started when I was younger, stopped collecting for 40 years and then started to collect ancient coins about four years ago. Now I am collecting everything again.

About like Mike, maybe a couple years later, but with a 30-year break in between. I'm making up for lost time, though.

After my Grandfather passed away in the mid-1980's my Grandmother gave me his Whitman folders of pennies. I can still remember him looking at each coin he received in change. After then I always looked at my change. Sometimes I saved it and sometimes I spent it. Now I remember him by enjoying this great hobby. Now I save more coins than I spend.

My Dad got me started in the late 60's when I was pretty young. I kept it up through high school, then college & partying got in the way. I kept my coins, and added to them off & on over the years, but wasn't really serious about it. I inherited my Dad's collection about 5 years ago, and in the last 6 months have started getting back into collecting.

Oh Oh, I'm gettin' old, 1961, I was 9. My folks went to the Texas panhandle to see someone and he happened to be a coin dealer with a coin shop (not why they went, I think they were friends) and he had 3 beautiful daughters who were all over me (like a little brother) and he gave me a 1961 Mint set. A few days later I found a 1925 D Mercury dime in change in VF and have been off and on ever since. That was a very good week!

It was the summer of 1964 and my Uncle Johnny visited from Boston. He was an avid collector and natural salesman. He introduced me to the hobby. I've still got pennies in my collection that I pulled from rolls under his tutelage. I'm lucky, because you could still pick up some nice buffs, mercs, Walking Liberty halves and wheats, of course, out of pocket change. I even got a 1929 SLQ in change at the 4th of July celebration that summer. I've only been active off and on since then, but always kept a few coins as the came into my possession. So I've got some coins from my great great grandfather that came to me when my mom passed away, coins from Germany when I was stationed there, and so forth. It's a good hobby...you can come and go as you want.

This is my 50th year. It should be close to my anniversary.

I started about 8/06. One of my coworks collects us mint issued coins. We started talking and he showed me some of his coins. I have been buying coins ever since. The first coins I purchased was the 2 Franklin Modern Commemoratives.

I started in early 80's...stopped for 18 years due to raising family and recently started (about a year ago). I regret taking the break. I cannot believe how much coins went up in value in the last 20 years...

I started when I was real young (only like 10-11 years ago, basically as long as I can remember) and have been collecting ever since. I took a few month-long breaks but recently I became serious with my collection after acquiring $1000 worth of Indian Head cents.

I have just in the last couple months gotten serious about coin collecting. When my husband and I owned the liquor store we were the only employees so when a customer paid with something old or odd we just through it in a box. In September of 2005 I had emergency brain surgery at the age of 34, I can no longer work due to my disease so I am just a stay home Mom now and was going crazy of boredom while the kids are at school. Was watching Tv and saw one of the shopping networks selling coins, got the box out we had saved from the store and started re-searching what I had, then right after Christmas this year my husband gave me what his Father had collected to help keep be busy. (Pity moment) After my surgery I am not able to do all the things I did before, this(coin collecting) has really changed my life and given me something that I can do on my own. Fishnwidow- If I ask a stupid question, I'll just blame it on the brain damage.
