First, greetings to all my northern neighbors. This is my first post in this thread.

I have a friend who is a jeweler and when he started (about 30 years ago) he practiced making different things. This piece was copied from a vintage Canadian quarter. I believe he cast a copy of the coin in 14K then did the filigree work himself. Nothing I would wear but it does look kind of cool. I just thought I'd share this one with you guys.

I have seen a number of people doing "cut out" coins, where they remove the excess metal around the design. Then use as keychains, jewellery, etc. The easiest way to make a piece like that would be to cut it out as I described, and then plate it with gold.

Yes, they do cut out the real coin and some are plated but like I said in the original post, he made this one out of solid 14K. I have another one he made with the reverse eagle from the Standing Liberty quarter also done in 14K but this one doesn't look too good.

Trust me. I tested it before I bought it. I may have been born yesterday but I stayed up all night and studied. Besides, you can see the casting lines.

PS I own a (small) pawn shop.

I am curious,
Why do you say 1960 quarter? Could it be any year.
Are both sides of the caribou identical? That would make it better looking than a cut out plated in gold with details of the queen on it still.

Bm0ney,

Because this was the only Canadian quarter I had laying around for comparison.

It's almost identical on the other side. The obverse (other) side is a little less finished but it does not have the image of the obverse like the actual coin. Like I said before, it was not a coin to begin with.
