A friend of mine found this in his till at work. We checked it out, and it's not a fake. The remaining print of the queen's face is printed on the backside of the fold. Any knowledge or previous encounters with this type of error would be greatly appreciated. Edited by Jard 01/04/2013 10:37 pm

Its cool note for sure , price will depend on how many collectors want it...You would have a few guys from this Forum for sure ..so once you reach 50 posts you can offer it for sale.. I would be a bidder for sure...Or you can put it on ebay and let it ride....

Your note seems to be missing some words on it, like "Bank of Canada" parallel to the security strip. A cropped picture with both sides would help us more in identifying this type of error.
That said, I'm not too sure how this type of error can be produced. Most folding errors of this type have a straight line of white going across the note to the end. Your note has a sort of polygonal blank area. Banknotes go through the press twice, so that might explain the missing text. Check to see what other intaglio is missing from the note, perhaps from the back. Judging by the fold itself and the crease marks that are there I think that there should be some printing on the back that was destined for the front. I just don't get how it's polygonal and still has areas that fade to white.

Thank you for the replys! My co-worker kept it, as it was his find, so getting additional pictures might not happen. I agree with the question Libertad brought up: How are there areas that fade to white? It doesn't make sense to me.
There is indeed writing on the back side that was destined for the front, but I wish I could show the picture of it to help explain. It looks as if it went through the press folded one time, but properly the other time, because the missing portion of the queens face is printed on the backside ONTOP of an already complete print.
There is a very prominent crease along the edge of the blank area that is closest to the top left corner of the bill. However when you fold down along that crease, the folded area does not completely cover the blank area. The most intriguing part is that it's impossible to fold in the top left corner of the bill to cover such an area across the queen's face. Grab a 20 out of your pocket and give it a try.

To get the desired area covered, like you say, Jard, is to fold it twice along the creases shown. The security strip is intact but blurry, but perhaps it's only the glare that makes it appear that way. I still don't get the faded parts. Beg your friend for a second look-see and photo session.
