OK guys I'm bored and I want to see some interesting coins out there.
Post ONE picture of the most unique World coin you own. The challenge is to try and post a coin that NO ONE else on this forum owns. Errors and Varieties do not count.
Not a contest. Just doing this for fun. Enjoy - I'll start it off with a Hutt River Province 5 Dollar piece from 1991. Edited by GO 04/12/2007 10:15 pm

Wait! Found one: Not extremely unique, but I think it's the only 1900+ in my collection :) German East Africa, brass, made out of melted-down gun shells!

That is a sweet Great Britain silver dollar ya got there. And the double sided counterstamp is spiffy as well.

OK here's the most unique one I can think of on short notice: Central African Empire 100 francs 1978. In late 1976, the President-for-Life of the Central African Republic decided to become a monarch, so he declared himself emperor and changed the name of the country to the Central African Empire. The Republic was re-established in 1979 by military coup. As the Wikipedia article mentions, only one coin type was struck in the name of the Empire - the 100 francs of 1978. They're not that easy to find, either - apparently the coin shipment didn't actually arrive until after the Empire fell, and the new government was understandably reluctant to issue them. Some found their way into circulation anyway - mine is quite heavily worn.

These are some of the more unusual coins that I have: Description can be read over here: https://goccf.com/t/13824 1991 .585 gold ballerina coin - this is one of the most unusual coins from Russia as this is one of the only gold ballerina gold coins minted in that particular year of the Soviet Union, i.e. no other gold ballerina coins exist in any other years other than palladium which started back in 1989 as well as such low level of gold is NEVER used in any other times of Russia. (other than the possiblity of early gold wire kopeks which I am not too sure of) And finally this - While technically it shouldn't be called coins as it is on two different planchets, this is a rather unusual piece as it seems that Moscow mint had plans to mint it in gold. What happened next is most probably the Mint officers thought it wouldn't sell very well and instead nickel copper version were minted by the Leningrad mint. A relatively similar coin can be seen here: http://www.cbr.ru/eng/bank-notes_co...um=5009-0001

Graceoutcast, Nice coin. I visited Hutt River Province in about 1991. I bought a heap of their stamps, but I didn't think to buy coins. DOH. There is not much there to see, basically just a large ranch. Steve

I've posted this before, so it's not very original, but it is the most unusual foreign coin in my collection.

Nice Argentinian, Hunter!
It looks like you have verdigris on the coin, though (the green stuff). You might want to get rid of it, since this kind of corrosion can spread to the entire coin. I've used Blue Ribbon copper cleaner/preserver with pretty good results. You can also try an Acetone soak (in the dark, so that the copper doesn't change color) and periodically take the coin out and work the affected areas with a q-tip soaked in Acetone, until the green is gone.
Cheers!
