As the New Year is here, I have decided to take 50 dollars every two weeks and make a coin purchase.
I am looking for ideas as to what to buy.
I don't want to "save up" for several weeks, I want to actually spend the whole 50. Doesn't necessarily have to be one coin.
Your ideas are welcome.

Junk silver sets of dimes.... You could get all the Rosies and most the mercs with a little effort. Also a date set of circulated Morgans would be fun.

I have the dime sets. The Morgan idea is a good one.
Keep 'em coming.

With all due respect tornandfrayed75 this is an impossible thread for any of us to respond with an honest answer. What if I suggested that you save your funds to purchase a PCGS MS64 1934 Peace dollar ... that's a $4,000 coin. How about a collection of Fugio cents from the colonial era of USA history. What matters is what you are interested in collecting ... and your post while well intended to solicit input gives us no guidance at all to help you. For true help ... don't make us guess at your collecting goals ... there are many coins out there ... what are your personal targets? David

What David ^ said. I was thinking pretty much the same thing. If you have played around with your spare cash in the coin hobby even a little bit, you should have a pretty good idea already of what your favorite areas are. If you ask how to spend arbitrary, imaginary money, everyone is gonna vote for their favorites. Maybe you are just seeking investment advice? If so then I suggest consulting the ever faithful majik .

I'm not sure about some of the previous posts, but if you're looking for ideas silver bullion rounds from around the world would certainly be an interesting adventure. What I'm doing with a similar budget is collecting common date Morgans that are interesting die varieties.

From an investment perspective you're doing exactly the right thing: Averaging in by buying modest quantities steadily over time. Sounds like a good plan.

How about a short set of Walking Libertys.
1940 to 1947 can be done in AU, some in MS for under $50.00 a coin.
In MS-61 the 41-S would be a little bit over but still could be done.
Prices were taken from Mumismedia FMV online.
Set like that would look great in a Dansco or Whitman.

Franklins can also be snagged for under $50/coin in reasonably nice grades.
I've set a goal for myself this year of buying a certain amount of bullion per week, so I like your plan. I hope you (and I can keep up with it).

Torn,
I think setting a $50 limit is a fun idea. This gives you some time to research whether you are looking to purchase silver or a semi-key date to fill a hole.
I hope whatever you decide, it makes you happy.
Keep us posted.

I know a guy who is willing to sell me 100s of wheat pennies, and 100 indian head pennies for 50. I would do that lol

I am trying to do the same thing. Every payday I buy myself 1 Morgan dollar in the under $50 range. Helps build the collection, and, lets me not over step my budget!
