My father found these near Macon, Georgia, near a Civil War battle sight, if that helps. I can't figure out what they are, so I thought I'd let the pro's have a look at them. They seem to be copper, and are much thicker than the dime next to them for reference. Any ideas?

Thanks for looking!

They're Indian, all right. By which we mean the subcontinent of India, in South Asia, not Native Americans.

The one in the middle doesn't have enough details for me to ID properly, but the one on the right appears to be from the Sultanate of Dehli, sometime in the 1400s-1500s AD.

Definitely not your usual Civil War detector find.

Could the coin on the right be Mughal rather than Sultanate?
Weights would be useful!

Right: Mughal, Akbar, AE 1/2 Dam, Agra.
Left: AE 1/2 Paisa, not enough to read. Later period.

There must be a real interesting history behind those coins to end up there.

Thank you for all the help! I can't believe these two travelled so far from "home". They were found pretty much in the middle of "Nowhere" middle Georgia. I have definitely got to try to dig into more history about them. I suppose we'll never really know how they got there. However, the next time I visit him I'm going back with a metal detector to the spot where he found them.

My Father has no interest in selling them, especially now, but does anyone have any idea of their value? I'm wondering if he should move them from off the mantle and into the safe. Of course, where he lives any thief would likely bypass them and take the VCR instead, but it pays to be cautious.

Thanks!

Just out of curiosity, how deep were they buried? Were they on the same level as Civil War relics?

They weren't buried at all. They were sitting on top of the soil, he just bent down and picked them up. The ground there is very sandy, and I think he found them alongside a fire break that had been cut a few years before so they could burn off the property. We've not found many Civil War relics there, just a few buttons or belt buckles here and there. It's a few miles from the actual battlefield.

The coin on the right is not mughal, it is Nasir ud din Mahmud shah of Gujarat. "Mahmud al sultan" is written on the obv. within a square border. On the rev. "Nasir ud dunya wa al din" can be seen.
