Do any Aussie collectors have Hutt River Province coins? I find the whole thing hilarious. I actually had no idea about it until I found a coin in a bulk world lot and googled it. Would love to see pics of any coins you have.

I have a Bill Clinton silver coin from Hutt River Province. I will try to take a picture of it and upload it.

I have the 1976 Proof Set which came in a blue velvet box. It was the first year the province minted coins. I read a lot about the HRP a while back, and thought this provided an interesting tangent to my coin collection. That said, although I value this first set, the HRP became quite commercial in the 1990s and produced a lot of crap they hocked to USA for easy profit. The Desert Storm $5 set, for instance is IMO worse than anything the Perth Mint comes up with (apologies to anyone who would take offence at this comment). Again, not to be offensive, but the HRP really are more tokens than currency. I wonder what the USA member above paid for their Bill Clinton token.

If you go to HRP today, the gift shop is most likely sold out of coins unless they've just released some new ones, but you can still buy the sets of notes. Some friends of mine visited there in 2005 and bought me a set. As for coins, I have coins from both factions. I have a 10 cents from the 1976 "mint set" from the Loyalist faction of Prince Leonard and four of the 1991 "Desert Storm" coins, issued by the Rebel faction of Prince Kevin. The latter were struck at the "New Queensland Mint", a trade name for the Continental Coin Co. of California. Here's the common obverse of the Desert Storm coins, the only pic I currently have of any of them on file: This old thread has more info on the coins of the two factions and a link to the coin collection of the "emperor of Atlantium" which has pics of most of the coins.

CoinManTim: I paid silver spot for it when I bought it. I think it was around $25 US. I bought it more as a novelty as it struck me as odd that Clinton would be on a coin.

Funny. I have had a set of hrp banknotes for a few years and finally stuck them in my banknote album on the weekend.

I live near Geraldton and quite often see "Prince" Leonard about the place. he is now an old codger that drives a beat up blue Rolls Royce. He is pretty unique tho because I doubt that there would be many royal personages that drive a Roller with a trailer hooked up to it to come into town for stores

I have actually poached marron from his property in the past He's a nice enough old bloke, he is simply a wheat and sheep cocky that found a loophole to get away from the wheat quota that was imposed at the time. Looks like the coins and stamps is probably a good little earner for him anyway

When you read about the history of how the HRP came to be, you can understand why Prince Leonard and the other farmers did what they did. Then you hear the colossal stuff up by the governor generals office and you can't help but . The things that the WA government wanted to do to it's citizens was just amazing. At some point, when I get time, a trip over is definitely in order. Problem is it's a long way from Brisbane.
