Hi,

Just wanted everyones opinion on the bulk lots of predecimal coins on ebay that are from deceased estates.

Do you think they have sorted through like 12- 18kg of pennies and half pennies?

Whats your opinion?

Yes, I think most bulk lots have been thoroughly searched.

i agree that they would have been noodled, it is not hard to google what to look for. you may however find a few varieties in there as they take a bit more knowledge to identify.

So if people think they have been noodled through why do they go for like $400-600 dollars

I guess the seller is hoping someone will pay a premium instead of copper value.!

because people believe what they read or just like to gamble with money. the only unsearched coin lots are those people have buried away after inheriting them, and never bothered to check em out. they can be found on ebay but that is very unlikely, go to clearing sales or deceased estate sales and buy direct.
guy around the corner has 8 old cake tins full, most are turning green and he will not do anything about them, they are most likely unsearched as he cannot even read or write, but worthless due to how he has kept them.

It is an easy thing to google for key dates.
So yes I think the bulk lots have been searched many times before appearing on ebay. Probably even by the deceased person (before they were deceased)

As for the price, well, there are plenty of bidiots out there who fall hook line and sinker for what ever the seller says in their listing.

Better yet (worse)are sellers who sell them with an old tobacco tin included in the photo and the "random" assortment of coins artfully arranged so that some Geo V can be seen (including the best coins), they also include at least one low grade/bent/cleaned coin in the photo so they can deny that they misrepresented the contents. Counting on noobs to dream that it is an old collection put away in the 1950's and maybe has a 1930 in it. Other warnings are "I know nothing about coins", "I inherited them", "I don't know what is in there" and "unsearched".

Some of the time, it would have to be true too....
But given the number of dodgy people around many will be lies.

That is a lot of coin though. $25 per kg isn't hugely expensive really. Theres about 100 pennies to a kg and 200 half pennies to a kg.
