Sam, It would depend on what you want to do with the coins and the type of coins. For strictly resale vale PCGS seems to get the highest prices. ANACS is the cheapest to submit to on average, they often have specials like Dollars and Cents ($10.00/per coins that are either type). ANACS you can submit directly too. PCGS and NGC you must be a member of their "club" another cost. If you are an ANA member you can submit to NGC directly and bypass having to join the "club".

I like ANACS for varieties, like VAM Morgan and Peace dollars, for higher grade Gold and Type coins NGC & PCGS are both fairly consistent. In early coppers I prefer PCGS only. Problem coins ANACS.

Most companies will offer a bulk submission, say 1000 ASE with a grade only or above designation, meaning they only grade and slab coins above a certain threshold IE: MS68 or better, and only charge for the coins the do, usually they must all be the same coin type, date and mint mark. Usually in lots of 100 or more. Not very feasible for most collectors, but serves the big marketing guys on TV well and larger dealers on the modern stuff.

In my opinion the retail value should be considered prior to certification as I have seen coins valued at $5.00 in PCGS holders which should have never been in a slab.

If your coin/coins are in the $500.00 and above price range, you may want to use PCGS or NGC if you don't mind the extra certification fees.

In the early days of TPG certification I would use both PCI and SEGS (2000 to 2005) then switched over to ANACS, and most cross-overs from both SEGS & PCI did come back in the same grade ANACS holders...

Also, I used to share a spot with another dealer in NY & NJ in the late 90's to around 2002 and most dealers on the bourse floor would carry a supply of TPG certified coins graded by PCI & SEGS back then and never received nowhere near the negative attention they do today on the internet.

As a side note, many here post replies that they will never consider purchasing (or submitting) coins to anyone other then PCGS and NGC as they are the "MOST ☼ TRUSTED" in the TPG industry, and with that said, I thought I would share a recent consumer post on ANACS facebook page asking why ANACS returned some of his coin as being cleaned, and cracked them out and then sent to PCGS for grading, receiving his ANACS "cleaned" coins in PCGS slabs with no cleaning mentioned on their holder. [this tells me ANACS will place "CLEANED" on their holder in a heart beat], and sadly I know this all to well.

The f/book comment is below, and I did delete his name for privacy and it can be found on ANACS facebook page for those to verify.

☼f/book name omitted for privacy☼ "Cleaned" Is the most common word that ANACS puts on a slab. I sent in a $2.50 Indian that might would fetch an AU58 on a good day and it came back MS64 "Cleaned". Also sent an AU50 $5 gold in at the same time. Yeah, you guessed it, AU50 "Cleaned". Cracked them out and sent them to PCGS and they came in at AU58 and AU53, NOT CLEANED!!!! I will never ever sent another coin to this group (ANACS) of hacks ever again!!

I never pay more than raw prices for a slabbed coin. But that's just me.
