That CherryPickers Guide (CPG) has me looking at everything now.

There is a 1943 S in the CPG but this seems a little different.
The one in the guide seems to show doubling in the 9 at date.

This has something on the "4" maybe a little on the other numbers.

Also not sure what is going on .. with the reverse.

Your coin appears to have been replated and rust developed underneath the replating.

The problem with the 4 is actually Die Deterioration Doubling. The 1943S listed in the CPG has strong doubling on the 1 and 9 of the date.

This is EXACTLY what the date has to look like on the '43-S DDO. The steel plating caused problems that strongly resemble doubling, it's very deceptive. This photo is of a prooflike early die state example. Even in later die states, you'll always see the strong doubling on the inside of the 9. Keep looking, it's a very cool variety, when you find it, you'll know without a doubt!

That's a nice crack extending from the rim just off the T and into his head. Too bad the coin is replated.

The lines you see on the outside devices towards the rim is die wear. Keep in mind that the steel dies were pressing steel planchets. This caused a lot of die wear and wierd events happening on the coins.
