I just fool with nickels now and to finish my third album 1938-61 I went to the coin shop with my list and bought the 9 coins I needed ,including the 50D ,19 dollars .At what point are you spending more on the coins you cant find in rolls ,than the whole albums worth? Now 5 of those coins were the low mintage wartime nickels ,42D-42S-43D-44D-45D..The 50D was pretty decent ,the silver nickels weren't anything to brag about.

Its not that uncommon for the keys to cost you more than everything else. Look at the lincoln cents, 2 or 3 keys dwarfs what the rest of the album costs.

I forgot to mention I picked up another new 1938-61 album and started on it today ,going through my stored rolls of nickels I filled 47 of the holes leaving 18 to look for and there all keys.I go through usually 30 rolls a day.

Hopefully that 50D is pretty nice for $19.

If the keys cost X amount of dollars and the rest of the album costs Y amount of dollars, then the whole album is still worth XY dollars. But I hear what you are saying. If it costs $50 for the last coin in the collection and the rest of the collection only cost you $30. Its the hobby. You want a complete collection....you pay the rates.

It's worth whatever you feel it's worth, between the cost of materials and coins and time involved to assemble it all. If it makes you happy, it's worth all the money in the world.

I keep asking the same thing. Just don't know what to do with excessive Albums, 2x2's, rolls, etc. Forexample I'm just finishing up Album #12 of Mercury dimes. 10 of Lincoln Cents, and this goes on and on and on and on............
How does anyone stop?

Raymo, you should easily be able to assemble most of the silver Roosevelts through roll hunting. I've assembled two folders easily in a year or two roll hunting dimes. I'm short 5 and 6 spots though in both, and have many duplicates.

I never have any luck finding silver. I did my Jeff's going through box after box and never did find a War Nickel or even a buff. Not sure I wanna deal with a small coin like a dime is. It definitely would be cheaper lol.

Well, they key to finding silver is searching volume. I found about 350+ Roosevelts, but had to search $50,000+ in dimes, sounds like a lot, but not really.

As far as roll hunting goes, believe me, I'm not really sure it's cheaper, but it is fun!
