I was curious to see if anyone had any opinions on their "Coins-On-Approval" service.

http://www.littletoncoin.com/

Also, does anybody know of any other companies that have a similar subscription service where you can have time to examine coins before you actually commit to pay for them?

TIA

Lots of companies and individual dealers will send you coins on approval. A lot of them have ads in " Coin World" magazine. Kind of like the "Time/Life" subscription way to buy coins, but it can be fun.

My only experience with them was when I bought some of their coins from their ads. They automatically send you coins to review and if you don't send them back they bill you, etc. Based on the two times I got coins, they were very overpriced compared to what you could get the same coin for elsewhere.

Great...thanks for the info.

scoutjim99 Eden is about 25 miles north of Greensboro, or about 10 south of the Martinsville Speedway.

From what I've read on numerous coin forums about that place is not real good. I believe what so many say and keep away from places like that.

They have been in business for many, many years.

You will find their advertising just about anywhere. Just the other day, I saw one of their ads on the return envelope for a credit card payment. They do try to reach out to people who are non-numismatists, and yes, I do believe their prices are a little high.

Great, thanks everyone. I'm a numismatic noob so I'm glad I asked first.
Are there any companies in this vein that anyone would recommend?

Try to remember that advertising cost money and the more advertising, the more someone will charge to compensate for that.

I'll stick the more traditional avenues for now.

I told this story before about my Littleton experience so I won't repeat the lengthy version. I will only say when I started collecting I didn't know about this place and didn't know any better about Littleton. Save your money, I found out the hard way. Overpriced junk even after my repeated requests that they fix the problem. Bright new shiny ASE's with gouges for twice or even three times the melt value did not sit too well with me even though I was new at collecting and didn't know any better but I could tell something wasn't right. Don't waste your time or money on them.

Littleton is very OVERPRICED, especially on their "Coins-On-Approval" NOT a good or even close to a good deal.
As to "Coins-On-Approval" in general, I never have heard a good story or had someone tell me that they were pleased with the service. They never really got what they wanted or if it was a coin they did like either the condition was not that good or once again, it was way overpriced. Then there is always the problem that some of the Approval Services make YOU pay the return postage and sometimes insurance.

I have bought their introductory ad coins (usually current coins in an UNC condition. I always return their approval coins. $30.00 for an oz of silver is a bad deal no matter how you look at it unless that price is in pesos.
Rest in Peace

I did business with them once. Was supposed to get two "free" coins, but they were "out of stock," so I only got one. Also, I missed reading the "on approval" part, so sent the approval coins back and cancelled.
