.. the porosity is light and doesn't take away from the coin as much as you normally see on this date. it would fit in my type set very well right beside my 1798 S-174.

thanks for the replies.i gave it vf25/20 maybe a little better-lightly porous.of course with the picture being ten times larger than the actual coin,in hand it looks a little sharper and a little less porous

These are hard to grade given the inconsistent strike quality and frequent surface problems. Even knowing that Half Cent is normally very weak on many Liberty Caps, I'd have trouble seeing this as any better than F-15 detail. The corrosion isn't terrible but maybe it has further softened the details such that I'm under-estimating the grade a tad.

grading this year, is indeed a little more challenging. Since it is well known for a weak strike and surface issues, the obverse normally would take precedence over the reverse for grading. really close scrutiny of the obverse devices has changed my opinion on the grade. I'm going with VF20/F15 light porosity.

with grading being so subjective were I to list it for sale if I put a grade at all in the listing i'd probably say f-vf details litely porous with nice color and no damage of any significance

I'd say that that was an accurate description. I'm having trouble determining the attribution on this one. to me it looks like head of 94, hover, the hair line butts right up against the bow and runs all the way down it and the date is much smaller than I have seen on 94's. can anyone place an attribution on this one?
