"I wish the mint would just sell ASE's directly to the public and keep the dirty, filthy, stinking, greasy, money-grubbing dealers out of it!"

The US Mint does sell ASEs (both proof and uncirculated) directly to the public. You should check their website.

How to Buy American Eagle Bullion Coins

Aside from the proof version, the United States Mint does not sell American Eagle Bullion coins directly to the public. Instead, the Mint distributes uncirculated Bullion coins through a network of wholesalers, brokerage companies, precious metal firms, coin dealers, and participating banks, a network known as Authorized Purchasers.

I stand corrected. They sell the proof and the "Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set" direct, but not bullion ASEs outside of that set.

It wouldn't cost effective for the US Mint to sell directly to the public unless they slapped on a really high premium.

I have noticed this with goldmart way before even price of silver going down, they do not have any junk silver (well almost nothing at the time). I have mentioned on other threads who is buying all the 'junk silver'? Prices on these all still about the same before the drop, maybe around $100-200 difference as most have jack up the premiums.

I am talking about the $100 bag silver (mercury dimes, Kennedy halves and any other). I like to look through these for varieties.
