I guess I should have voted no because I am not crazy about the idea as presented but I would love to see the coinage redesigned. Not a knock on Jefferson as a President or a person but that nickel needs to go along with the others. The Lincoln would probably be the hardest to change but 100+ years is enough already IMHO.

This is depressingly dumb...
Please just go back to liberty, OR stick with the presidents.
I agree. One or the other. I prefer Liberty, but not with it being being teased this way.

The Half-Dollar should go Liberty-only in 2015, replacing the JFK after a fifty-year run ending in 2014.

The Dime should go Liberty only in 2016 (but even alternating beats unchanged since 1946!)

Liberty Quarters (rotating) should wait until the conclusion of the ATB series in 2021.

I voted yes but only because if this is the best way to get Liberty back on the coins then so be it. I am sick of the presidents on coins. I actually like the idea of a changing reverse every year, but only once per year, like the Native American designs. Alternating designs in opposite years would be confusing.

They should wait till 2016. That yr do a 100yr anniversary of one of the greatest yrs in American coinage. 1916, Issue the Buffalo nickel, Mercury dime, Standing Liberty quarter, and Walking Liberty half. In 2017 these will become the circulating coinage. Obviously finish the ATB's and Presidential dollars series.

I like the idea of returning Liberty to the coins, but NO MORE PRESIDENTS! I like the question asked in the article, "And does anyone really want to take Washington off the quarter?" Yes! No offense, General Washington, but you voluntarily stepped away from office, and you can do the same from the quarter. Be the bigger man. Let someone else in. I hate the idea of two dime or quarter designs being minted at the exact same time. It makes us look so indecisive as a country. I won't even start on the extra costs that would surely create.

It is way past time for a makeover on America's coins, but let's not bring back past glories. There has to be some original thinkers about what is new and interesting. Either do that or let's just stay with what we have because it comfortable and the easiest thing to do.

Bringing back past coin designs is like bringing back a past athelete or entertainer who are way past both their prime.

Except for the Peace dollar obverse, most people I've shown them to have never seen one before. I just know that I'm tired of the walking liberty design. It's been done to death.

I vote no if they will be keeping the same presidents designs and alternating with Liberty. The article I read in Coin World was very big on all the money the Mint would make from the change. Where would the money come from you ask--answer, collectors like us. Just more ways to get money out of us--another tax! I definitely would not want them to change the ATB Quarters until the series is complete.

Bing bing bing bing bing we have a winner! I KNEW this thread could not go on for long without someone going on about the mint making money off the poor collectors. The mint is in the business to make money. Please give that horse a rest for crying out loud.

Again, what is the problem with the presidents being on the coins? I have yet to see any obverse designs for any commems that would give me any hope that a new obverse design would be any good. You want something like that God awful 9/11 piece of junk? And how many of you complain about the designs on the quarters not being good? You want some flat featureless un imaginative gunk like Wyoming?

But again, the main question being, what is wrong with old George and Abe and TJ and JFK? Great men who deserve their places on our money.

Smokeriderdon, I do agree with several of your points, but I disagree that things are hopeless.
Granted, the obverse is st gaudens, but I love the realistic/subtle/atb'ish elements of the reverse.

It incorporates the modern technology with actual art...

Jus think that designs like this and ALL ATB designs so far have been incredibly tasteful as well as very powerful.

I am enjoying his thread. My personal vote goes as follows:

New liberty style half in 2015 after the anniversary in 2014. Obverse of community service dollar, reverse of 84 Olympics dollar.
Liberty style quarter after the ATB's are complete with the current GW obverse.
Dime to follow the half in 2017 to give the Roosie a send off as well.

I'm up in the air with the nickel. Maybe some sore of numeral design replacing montecello, then the original Jefferson bust obverse.

Remove the cent and do an Ike size Lincoln dollar coin with current Lincoln obverse and shield?

I'm just kind of grabbing things out of the air, but you catch the drift!

Lol smoke about the mint. I have to agree it shouldnt be a surprise the government is trying to make money off you. As for the presidents George and Abe can stay, TJs been on long enough and he was no GW and JFK I'm ready to see something new. I'm also bias against dimes anyway since theyre so small. Jefferson can stay too but please switch it back, I am not a fan of modern art designs at all. I like nickels a lot but stopped collecting them after the westward series was complete.

Franklin got a half, how about some Patrick Henry or John Adams mixed in there or Hamilton
