I know how some people like to put coins on railroad tracks... hehe I was wondering what the new GW dollar coin would look like after a train ran over it. I just don't know if it would either get shot out somewhere and never find it, or if it would derail the train. Maybe the latter won't even happen, I just don't want to take a chance if that COULD happen. Any ideas?

I won't derail the train...trust me. sometimes it's hard to find em after they are squashed. if the train is going fast it won't do as good of a job. I personally think the best is when the train has stopped. go up to it and place the coin under the wheel and it will slowly press it.
good times.

Let the train flatten it and then let NNC attribute the coin as a mint error in the conservative grade of MS70.

We always did that when I was a kid with pennies but to blow a dollar just to see what happens?

I have waited for AmTrac to pull into the station, then sit the coins on the track and have them slowly flattened.
And, no, the many ton diesel engines won't be derailed by a GW Dollar.
Never had a dollar flattened, just cents and nickels.
I recently had some coins flattened by an old narrow gauge train. Coins weren't completely flattened. I guess the train wasn't heavy enough.

Gary said,"I recently had some coins flattened by an old narrow gauge train. Coins weren't completely flattened. I guess the train wasn't heavy enough." I'm betting it was the old GeorgeTown belcher & smoker that did the dasterdly deed!

I just tried putting one on my son's train track and it did derail the engine and coal tender and broke thru a fence and killed a cow.

Old Dan:
That was a great guess. In fact every time we go to Denver and I look at that train, I want to ride it. But never have.
We had our family reunion last year in Durango. The Condo we rented had the train tracks run almost through the back yard. Whenever we would hear the whistle we would run up the little hill with the kids and watch the train chuff by.
For those who don't know the train, it is the Durango-Silverton Railroad. It used to be the Denver and Rio Grande Western. Since my Dad worked for the D&RGW, I could have ridden the train for free. Never did. One of these day!!

I crammed 4 years of college into 5 years in Durango. On the last weekend in October they did a 'local appriciation day'. I think this was the last weekend they ran all the way to Silverton. You could buy tickets for $5.00 or something like that. It was a lot of fun and more beautiful than you can imagine, but colder than all get out!!
Throughout my five years (and various stages of sobriety), we tried to smash pennies on the D&SNGRR We were only successful a few times. Most of the time we were not able to recover the penny.
