Your photos make it very hard to tell anything. You need to use two light sources across from each other or one light source directly above the coin. To many dark areas to be able to make out what, if anything is going on.

Single light source is the best. When you use a second light source it causes shadows that look like something, when it isn't Best location for light is from the top. Keep in mind also to check to see if you are getting ambient light from a window or a room light. The way to test for this is to place your hands around the coin and look to see if there is any glare from a secondary source. Two light source is a no no, but if the two light sources work as a single light source then that might work. They just have to be very close together.

My office doesn't have any windows and the door was shut. I just figured out that the light should be coming from the top shining down I'll post new pics in a bit. Thanks

Really what do you think is making it look that way? Even when I rotate the coin 180° I still see the notching in the areas pointed out. I'm not saying your wrong and I don't wanna offend your expertise I'm sure you been doing this longer then me I'm just asking so I can learn. Thanks

There is die wear on the devices toward the rim. On the image of IN you can see the die flow from the tops of these devices. The images seem normal in size from what I can see. On the 1983P-1do-001 you can see the devices enlarged. https://www.coincommunity.com/forum...9records.jpg

The thing you need to keep in mind is the devices are conical. In other words cone shaped. the largest part is next to the field, and the smallest is the top surface of the device. This is to make it harder for the planchet to stck to the die after striking. Because of this shadows and lighting can play heck on the eyes.

You can tell by the shadows and lighting in the first pics that it is not a DD. I always try to think in my head if this was a real DD where would the light be hitting the split seriffs and where would there be shadows.
What are you taking your pictures with. The last one is very nice.
The one thing I still do not understand is what is that to the bottom left of the "L" in the first picture It does look like some kind of doubling...

I think that is just Die Deterioration playing tricks with your eyes. Look at the first pic in the second batch of photos. What you see in the photo you are referring to is not visible in the one I am referring to.
