Just came across a $10 note with the serial number 991166, and was wondering what the "official" terminology for such a find was. I believe it could be something along the lines of a 6 digit mirrored radar somethingorother... TIA

I don't recall a "term" for "three pair".

I s'pose we could invent a name for it. Maybe triple double. It's an interesting number though, fairly high. Not one I'd keep, but if you like it, it only cost $10.

I believe the term is a "Swimmer".

So in Nth America it's a Rotator / Flipper. Could catch on over here I s'pose.

That particular serial is a keeper for sure. It reads the same upside down as it does the right way up.

So it must be an inverted radar?

Doing a bit more research after receiving your helpful suggestions, it would seem things work out something like this:

A Flipper is a note that can be read upside down, but does not necessarily need to exactly match the original ie 089066 becomes 990680, while a Rotator or a SWIMS note (aka Swimmer) is one the reads the same when rotated/read upside-down ie 086980 matches 086980.

All Rotators/Swimmers are by default Flippers, but not all Flippers are necessarily Rotators/Swimmers. I also note some purists do not consider 1's to be valid Rotator numbers, believing them to be limited to 0, 6, 8 and 9's.

SWIMS (or Swimmer) seems to best capture the essence of the note stylistically, but it looks like all three terms are relevant (sans purists)

Maybe not quite as exciting as Unicorns recent binary rotator find, but a nice find regardless. Thanks guys!

Perhaps a tripled double flipper?
