Please submit your comments and grading on this 1837 NS Seated dime I have had in my type set for many years. it's a little out of focus, still learning how to take pics. If its not clear enough, let me know and I will see if can get better shots.

at one time the toning was a beautiful purple/blue and it has darkened over the last 10 years.

I'm calling it high AU, not necessarily because I see a lot of wear but because a couple of the dings are from circulation contact. The reverse shows more "wear" than the obverse, but that might be a strike issue. Lovely coin either way.

Yep AU55 looks about right. Very nice piece.

its a large date variety
it does not look to attribute to what is posted on the known reference material
the date almost seems to touch the rock at the "1" and the "7"

is there any repunching at the bottom of the "7"?

Would you take head-on shots of both sides and post? I'd like to send those in for review and see what you have there in terms of variety. Maybe nothing, maybe something new, who knows but its exciting to find out if you please.

those are great head on

I'm going to forward due to the date placement. It might be a common date measurement but when I see something that cannot be referenced, I think its best to check it thoroughly

This one's tough to grade. The divots and rim hits border on damage and would likely result in a net grade of AU50. The detail does look AU55 or even 58 under the heavy toning.

It's a tough date and a pretty nice example of the first year issue.

now after the newer photos, the hit is a lot larger than I thought on the obverse at 2:00, a divot is about right, it's the same spot on the reverse, correct? I wonder if someone had this in a punch or vise at one time?

Also what the heck is going on with the "E" in America? A hit or dig or could it be a die problem? Can't quite tell from the photos.

I always loved this design - conjures up memories of the Gobrecht dollar patterns, the no stars obverse is so clean looking. A classic coin and a tougher to find, must have, one year only, US type coin. Even with the issues they arent found with this much detail very often, it's very drool worthy.

I guess the pics fooled me a bit on the date placement. It is standard for the only known obverse die that creates this coin.

The current variations lie within the rotated reverse and the shattered obverse and should you happen across one, go for it if you're a variety collector. There is a PCGS EF40 Shattered Obverse for sale for $750 if anyone is interested in the variety.
