Paused an episode of Pawn Stars while watching it on my DVR, and it just so happened that where I paused was during a transition segment where they were showing merchandise in the store. The merchandise it paused on was two ASE's listed at $400 each (a '92 and an '87). Really?! Even if it was filmed when Ag was sniffing $50/oz, that's insane.

I went there in winter, and they seem to charge whatever they want too. Paid 6 dollars over spot, just to have a souvenir. Did get their velvet bags for the silver.

Theres an extra 0 on there lol.
Since I've never been in the store its possible that they may be doing that for the camera incase someone pauses it to look a lot more high end than it is, but its possible they just charge whatever and wait for someone to come close to the price.

I realize you can haggle at a pawn shop but with sticker prices that high, I don't know how likely they are to come close to spot (or reality).

I might be wrong - but those look like proofs - and I doubt you'll get them near spot anyway. $400 no... but $22...no.

They have NO IDEA about coins. They had a couple of capped bust halves when I was in there, one was nice, original, I valuated it about $40 and they had it priced $75. They had another, similar year, higher grade but poorly cleaned. Again, I valuated $40-50, they had it at $125. They don't have any serious coin people on staff, they just sorta guess - or, in my opinion they just take whatever they pay and double or triple it.
It was fun to go to the store, however. And yes, you can pick up a melt Morgan or Peace for $40 or $45, makes a nice souvenir.
Fact is, it doesn't matter! The coin counter was the busiest one while I was in there, and they sold a bunch of stuff. People that tend to go to the shop are those types that know just enough to get themselves in trouble - and let's face it, they're certainly no worse than half the dealers out there. (Maybe more than half.) : /
By the way, if they feel they have a 70 there, they're not necessarily wrong on the price.

Makes you wonder how much they have in them to put that kind of price on them.

Maybe those are one of the 20oz aftermarket rounds designed to look like Eagles

Really? Fair 'nough!
I'm a firm believer in "buy the coin, not the holder." But yes, if you're working with a dealer that is not consistent and fair in your gradings and valuations, as a buyer you should definitely focus on certified coins from that dealer (which is definitely the case in my opinion with Pawn Stars).

They like silver & gold that tells me that they really don't want to sell it.

In the case of 70s no matter how consistent of fair someone is in their grading the only way to get that premium on a resale if its its slabbed as one. For anything else though I agree that its not always a must to be certified if you locate a good fair dealer which unfortunately can be harder than it sounds. I was fortunate enough to find one thats out of town in a place I travel too quite frequently, always makes the trip extra fun to stop by the shop
