I'm cruising ebay and I come across a lot of Indians with this decent looking 1909. I look at the reverse......I realize with acetone and Verdi-Care that I have a good chance of rehabilitating this Indian gone bad. ....I go all in trying to outbid the others and get the 1909 for $2.14. ...It arrives and I break out the acetone and do a one hour soak followed by covering the back with VC and letting it soak in. A bit of a change but not much. I put her back in the acetone and totally spaced/forgot about it for 24 hrs. (went frogging with my grandson and son down from Alaska) Wake up the next day and start working on the crud while it's still in the acetone. I bring it back in and VC it up and carefully use a toothpick. Turned out pretty dang good.

How do you safely use a toothpick without damaging the coin? I have tried acetone soaks and they don't ever do much for me, and I am scared to use anything to try and work the goo off.

The wooden toothpicks are a little broomed out at the tip. I start with the idea that I only paid 2 bucks for the coin and with the reverse so nasty that the coin is basically worthless. Maybe I just got lucky, I don't see any scratching. I think the soft wood helps.

The second part of my experiment is to put it back on ebay and see how much my efforts have increased its worth. Every once in awhile I enjoy trying to flip coins just to see what good pics will do verses bad pics that hide what a good coin has to offer. You guys can't bid on it so I'm not accused of promoting sales lol. I hardly ever sell anything. I have a sickness for buying bargain Indians. Oh well.

Wow I would have thought the reverse scratches at 3:00-4:00 area near rim would be into the coin's surface, great that they weren't! Beautiful conservation and improvment on this IHC 52Raymo!

That's really cool! Please keep us updated whenever you flip that one. That's nicer than the one in my IHC collection! I think I need to upgrade my 20th century series.

I decided to continue on with my experiment and listed it. I started it at .99.
