I don't believe those are coins. They look to me as medals of the Chinese calendar, probably sold to tourists.

Yes I don't believe so either. Though I believe they may be commemoratives and the texture matches that of a few of my Peace dollars so I am hoping they are silver.

They are souvenir medals for fun, teaching 12 representing animals of birth for Chinese. This year (2013)is the Year of Snake. Next year is Horse...and so on. Of course, it can't be silver.
