I'm creating an album to hold examples of U.S. coin errors and other interesting items. I'm just looking for one example of each and not looking for anything prohibitively expensive. Any suggestions of something common that I'm missing would be very much appreciated.
Here is what I have so far:
U.S. Coin errors: - blank (no rim) - planchet (rim) - clipped planchet - multiple strike - defective die - off-center - broadstrike - de-lamination - brockage - wrong planchet (haven't gotten that one yet) - rotated die - misaligned die - waffled coin - post-production damage (damaged by sealer)
Other U.S. coins: - Hobo nickel - counter-stamped coin - Love token - Painted coin - (My sons have separate "smashed penny" albums, so I left that out)
Non-monetary - Transit token - Amusement token - Souvenir token - Drink token - Gambling token - Gambling chip - Military challenge coin
Currency (I don't collect currency at all so this needs to be BRIEF) - Silver Certificate - RADAR - Maybe one more, like a $2 bill
It's not intended to be an exhaustive list, but merely to highlight some of the fascinating areas of specialty. So if you look at the list and see a glaring omission, I would appreciate your input!

Clashed dies and capped dies are inexpensive and very cool

You could add a plated coin like the HSN gold plated quarters and maybe a Magician's coin to the "Other" set -- that is if "other" means coins that people did stuff to. How about a star note? Doesn't have to be a scarce one, just an example. I like your idea.

monika - I'm not looking for a place to BUY but rather for IDEAS of what other items I should consider for inclusion.
DrDon - Sorry about the error. I'm re-doing that whole section (hence the posting), but obviously I need to clean up those links if people are going to be looking there. I have corrected the link problems and uploaded the latest images of the pages, but it is still a work in progress. You may have to force a refresh (CTRL+F5) to see the latest version if you visited that page recently.
You mentioned a site but didn't provide a link or URL. Can you provide that, please?
j-win - clashed dies and capped dies. I will make a note of that. Thanks!

Buddy - a Magician's coin? What a SPECTACULAR idea! I really like that a lot! Plated coins is another good suggestion, but that a new one on me so I'll have to do a little research. I might delegate that take to my wife. She is the family expert on HSN and QVC. A star note would be a PERFECT third note. I think the banknote pages hold three notes per page, so a star note, silver certificate, and RADAR would be great examples of the kind of stuff note collectors look for. I did the same thing for my stamp collection (examples of stuff I don't collect) and really learned a lot from it. Thank you so much for your inputs!

Much better I might have a casino coin or two and a token you might be interested in. I'll try to locate and post photo later this week.

Dr Don - I already have a Casino coin and token (page 2, row 5, columns 1 and 2). I'm looking for ideas of other items that would fit in. Buddy's suggestions of an HSN/QVC plated coin, magicians' coin, and star note were spot on.

I have the aim of getting a straight and curved clip planchet for each Australian denomination. You might like to get an example of each type, also a double clipped coin.

The 1970-D wrong stock material: https://www.coincommunity.com/forum...eDiamond.jpgIndents, mirror brockage, (these are probably included with your brockage listing) Currency: Star notes. Different series through the years, Different signers fold over errors, smeared letters, print on the wrong side. Do a search on Heritage auctions and you would be surprised what IS out there on coins and currency. The older currency has unbelievable detailed designs. Educational notes series is my favorite. Not that I own any, I'm a Lincoln Cent person.

Re: plated coins My husband got our gold-plated quarter in my change. I took it to my club and asked around....nobody knew what it was. LOL Anyway, it's worth a quarter and they can be found from time to time. There is also a plated Kennedy out there -- and a thread here about it. And finally, people plated Lincolns to make them look silver...so you have other options besides HSN. Whichever one you can get for free is probably the best.

Re: 'smashed' coins
Are those run over by a train or elongated cents?

only one I've thought of not listed yet.
struck through grease/debris. Some of the pricy ones include struck through cloth/wire/wood.

Sorry: here's the link: http://www.error-ref.com/The token I mentioned is an "ICE" token, that's all it says,no image, nothing but the one word. Might I suggest a Mardi Gras doubloon and a "Ship Christening " medal. As for bills perhaps a U.S.Note. Two more coin ideas, a deplated zinc cent amd a "bubbled" cent.
