I was licking my wounds yesterday after missing out on a sweeeet (raw) 1865 Fancy 5 IHC (RB), but I rebounded and picked up a Plain 5 IHC and wanted to see what the CCF members think that ANACS bestowed upon her. There is just something about the Longacre doubling ( no added value) that is classy IMO. The planchet "flaw" at above/below NI in UNITED adds a character as well. There may be a die clash on the left side of the shield (Liberty's neckline?). I am going to have this IHC crossed over to PCGS so it will reside in my registry collection. Sweet '65! It almost appears to be a double clash line on the reverse. So many wonderful "flaws" happening on this little Indian for sure. I'll wager an uneducated guess of MS65.

MS64RB, the carbon spot and nick on the reverse keep if from 65 IMO. Also, there may be a repunched date.

Snow 3?! Beautiful. Is this die stage A, with the planchet flaw at 2:00 on the reverse?

Quote: Is this die stage A, with the planchet flaw at 2:00 on the reverse? I am not familiar with "die stages", but there is a raised line (die crack?) at/about 1 to 2 o'clock on the reverse.

Yes, I confirmed this is die stage A. It has a different reverse die than stage B. DavidZerbato noted a rim nick on the reverse, but it is actually the diagnostic planchet flaw for the reverse. Of course, it doesn't mean ANACS didn't dock the coin because of the 'defect'.

Something that really intrigues me about this IHC is the definition of the head band. I don't remember these being so "squared away". Perhaps I am just " biased".

the headband really does jump out. When I was doing research on this variety, I came across this particular coin. I guessed the grade that ANACS actually gave it, too.
